Trumpeter, jazz musician, and educator Jon Ailabouni directs the Luther College Jazz Band (sister ensemble to the Jazz Orchestra), Luther jazz combo program, and teaches improvisation, jazz theory and arranging, jazz history, and studio improvisation and trumpet lessons. He also performs with the Luther College faculty brass quintet.

A summa cum laude graduate of Luther, with a degree emphasizing classical trumpet performance, Ailabouni received the master of music degree in jazz studies from Western Michigan University (WMU) in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Ailabouni then joined the WMU music faculty, where he taught jazz brass lessons, directed the Jazz Lab Band, and served as co-director of the Western Invitational Jazz Festival.

Ailabouni has toured internationally in France, Puerto Rico, and Brazil and performed domestically at the Midwest Band Clinic in Chicago, the Detroit International Jazz Festival, Jazz at Lincoln Center in New York City, the Jazz Education Network Conference, and the Monterey Next Generation Jazz Festival and in concerts alongside Kurt Elling, Paquito D’Rivera, Bob Mintzer, Fred Hersch, Donny McCaslin, Bobby Watson, Edward Simon, John Clayton, Jamey Haddad, and the New York Voices.

Ailabouni's interests in collaborative and interdisciplinary work have led to multiple large-scale works featuring his composition including In Search of America with author Robert Wolf, Highway 57 with choreographer Blake Nellis, Chet Baker: In A Blue Room with Nellis and actor Kristen Underwood, and Body of Water, The Invitation Game, and Who Do You Trust? with Luther College faculty choreographer Jane Hawley (Luther College Dance Department).
