Anthropology 301: Experimental Archaeology
Colin Betts

Offered alternating years, Experimental Archaeology seeks to provide insights into the cultural dimensions of prehistoric technology by reconstructing past tools and techniques. The Spring 2015 version of this class explored the origins, techniques, and cultural implications of the control of fire by humans. As part of this general inquiry, students researched and replicated Native American fire making techniques as part of a broader analysis of the role of wood hardness in fire-by-friction methods.
