2. Make it a priority
   • Treat your internship search like another class on your schedule.
   • Start the process in the fall semester to give yourself the best chance of success.
   • Everyone's situation is unique so come to the Career Center for assistance. 
3. Start networking
   • Many students have participated in internships through their existing contacts such as parents, siblings, former employers, coaches, doctors, and other various individuals they know.
   • Consider sending connection requests to Luther alumni on LinkedIn. Always include a personal note about why their organization is of interest to you, and ask if they would have 20 min. to talk.

Create Your Own Internship

Many students who participate in an internship have done so through their willingness to approach a potential site and offer themselves as a possible intern. Many organizations do not have formal internship programs, and others have simply not considered hiring an intern before.

If you know the type of experience you are seeking and the type of organization in which you would like to get this experience, then simply approaching them may be a viable and fruitful option.
