Dear ’63 Mates:

The Sesquicentennial has officially begun!   We’re just back from a visit to Luther for the opening convocation of this 150th year.  The rector (=president) of the University of Oslo delivered the address, especially appropriate because his university, the alma mater of nearly all the founders of Luther, celebrates its bicentennial this year. For a European University 200 is young, but while Norway was under Danish rule for five centuries, Norwegians were obliged to travel to Copenhagen or the German universities for advanced studies.
