Program Information

Here you can view information about degree requirements, endorsements, concentrations, scholarships, and facilities.

The goal of the academic advising guide sheets is to promote undergraduate student success by guiding all students to timely completion of an undergraduate degree and is meant to be used as a guide for planning purposes in consultation with an academic advisor. The guide sheets also help students prepare for meetings with their academic advisor and track their progress in their selected academic program.

Students are encouraged to:

  • Be familiar with required courses for their academic program and how they fit into the overall plan.
  • Update their plans at the end of each semester.
  • Review updated plans prior to advising appointments to identify which courses they need to take.
  • Bring updated plans (hard copy or electronic) to all advising appointments.

Your journey may not be the same as everybody else’s, and your academic advising guide sheet is one tool you can use to build your personal roadmap to success!

Elementary education majors also need to choose an endorsement in addition to their major.  These endorsement areas are required for licensure and provide them with a broader and deeper understanding of how to provide instructional support students who may need additional differentiation either in the general education classroom or in small group instructional settings outside their primary education classroom.

Education students have several opportunities to receive scholarships and grants.

Federal TEACH Grant

Federal TEACH grants assist students intending to teach in a school that serves students from low-income families.

Departmental Scholarships

Friends and alumni of Luther College fund many annual and endowed scholarships and awards. These scholarships often have specific criteria for potential recipients involving financial need, academic program of study, etc. Luther’s Financial Aid Office works closely with each academic department to award these scholarships to deserving candidates.

Awards are presented in the spring, for use the following academic year. Because selection is made by faculty, in cooperation with the Financial Aid Office, there is no need to apply. If you have questions, please see your department head.

Take a virtual tour of the education department facilities.
