Frequently Asked Questions

Why is the discussion about self-forgiveness framed as “moral self-forgiveness?”

Wrongdoing usually has ripple-effects. Others are often hurt by our mistakes. Forgiving ourselves is good, but must also take into consideration others who have been hurt by our misdeeds. We want people to regain their self-esteem and emotional wellness. Excluding concern for others impacted by our behavior increases narcissism and may perpetuate unhealthy behavior. Concern for others feelings, and attempting some form of reinstitution, if only an apology, adds a healthy moral dynamic to FoRGo. TIP: Direct restitution is not always possible, but there are usually ways to share what we have learned from our mistakes with others, thus helping others to avoid making the same mistake we have made.
