A 

The A & J Petersburg Agency Scholarship shall be awarded to qualified students with preference given to students from Northeast Iowa.

The Maynard and Minerva Aaker Family Scholarship, established in memory of their parents, Olaf and Ella Aaker and Nils and Emma Fredrickson, shall be awarded to qualified students who can show evidence of financial need from the Kenyon-Wanamingo, Minnesota and Maricopa County, Arizona areas.

The Maynard E. Aaker and George C. Strum Scholarship shall be awarded to qualified students who can show evidence of financial need. Preference shall be given to students from the Lafayette County, Wisconsin area.

The Admissions Special Opportunity Endowed Scholarship, to be awarded to qualified students in order to meet a higher percentage of demonstrated need for financial assistance, with preference given to students with excellent academic or leadership qualities, and to students that bring diversity to Luther College from areas that include, but are not limited to, Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Louis, Racine, Kansas City, Waterloo, Des Moines, and Omaha.

The Aguilar-Pizer Family Scholarship, established by Anthony Pizer '03 and Jessica Aguilar '03, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance.

The Aguilar-Pizer Family Study Abroad Scholarship, established by Anthony Pizer '03 and Jessica Aguilar '03, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance to be used for a study abroad experience.

The Altorfer Family Scholarship, established by Edward J. and Betty Altorfer, to provide scholarships to qualified male students who can show evidence of need for financial assistance.

The Alumnae of the Former Lutheran Ladies Seminary Scholarship shall be awarded each year to worthy women students who display evidence of financial need.

The Alumni Council Scholarship, established by the Luther College Alumni Council, shall be awarded to qualified students in need of financial assistance with preference given to descendants of Luther alumni.

The Ambuel Family Scholarship, established by T. Louise Ambuel '43 in loving memory of her brother, Dr. J. Philip Ambuel '41, and their parents, Henry J. and Bertha E. (Preus) Ambuel, shall be awarded to qualified students who can show evidence of need for financial assistance.

The Hazel and Alan Amundson Scholarship, established by the Amundson family in honor of Hazel and Alan Amundson, shall be awarded to qualified students, with preference given to students who are members of First Lutheran Church, Decorah, Iowa, and/or graduates of Decorah High School.

The Richard and Barbara Amundson Scholarship, established by Richard '64 and Barbara (Moen) Amundson '65, shall be awarded to qualified students, with preference given to graduates of Decorah High School or students who are members of First Lutheran Church, Decorah, Iowa.

The Anderson Family Scholarship shall be awarded for study away from campus to qualified junior or senior students demonstrating financial need and/or extraordinary potential who are considering careers in public service or non-governmental public service. First priority would be for students involved in study in Washington, D.C., or at another location where opportunities exist to acquire education of particular value to future positions in public service.

The Amber Hill Anderson and Elaine Ottmers Hill Scholarship, established by Elaine (Ottmers) '77 and Paul Hill, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance.

The Andrew O. Anderson Memorial Scholarship, established through the estate of Betty Juhasz, shall be awarded to qualified students who can show evidence of need for financial assistance.

The Beverly Anderson First Generation American Scholarship, established by Beverly (Stark) '85 Anderson, shall be awarded to qualified students who demonstrated need for financial assistance, and to honor Beverly's mother who immigrated to the United States, preference will be given to those who are first generation American students.

The H. George and Jutta F. Anderson Scholarship, established by Luther College Regents in recognition of Dr. H. George Anderson's leadership as president of Luther College from 1982 to 1995, to be awarded to students with financial need, with preference given to students who contribute diversity to the Luther College student body.

The James A. and Ruth L. Anderson Scholarship, established by Ruth L. Anderson '50, to be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance who are the first in their family to attend college.

The Dr. Ronald and Lorna Anderson Scholarship, established by Jim '85 and Martha (Anderson) Looft '83, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance to support J-term or semester long study abroad experiences while at Luther College.

The Steven Mark Anderson Memorial Scholarship, established in memory of Rev. Steven Mark Anderson '85 by his parents, Lloyd and Mary, shall be awarded to students who are sophomores, juniors or seniors with a first preference to those students who qualify for the Student Support Services (SSS) program at Luther College.

The Synneva Hella Anderson Memorial Endowed Scholarship, established to encourage the exchange of students and study opportunities between Luther College and Norway.

The Alfred N. Arveson Memorial Scholarship, established through the estate of Constance Gilham Arveson, shall be awarded to qualified students who can show evidence of need for financial aid.

The Helen E. Atwater Scholarship, established through the estate of Helen Atwater, shall be awarded to qualified students who are native born citizens of the United States, members of a Protestant church, and who can show evidence of need for financial assistance.

The Aust-Hermanson Scholarship, established by Sheldon '52 and Renee (Aust) Hermanson '54, shall be awarded to qualified students who can show evidence of need for financial assistance.

The Sally (Swab) and Brad Austin Family Scholarship, established by Sally (Swab) '70 and Brad Austin, shall be awarded to qualified male students from rural communities in Iowa and/or Minnesota.

B 

The Babine-Kleene Scholarship, established by Barbara (Kleene) '72 and Rev. Daniel Babine, along with Phyllis and Kermit Kleene (in memoriam), shall be awarded to deserving first-generation students who wish to study abroad during their junior or senior years. The scholarship is open to students from all disciplines, with preference given to those pursuing degrees in any helping profession, i.e. teaching, theology/religion, medicine, etc.

The George O. Bachelder and Orchard Mdzonga Endowed Scholarship, established by Michael '81 and Rhonda Hicks, shall be awarded to first-year U.S. student(s) of African American decent who shows need of financial assistance and qualifies for a Federal Pell grant or other similar federal assistance. This award shall be made in addition to other need-based assistance the student may receive from Luther.

The Jeffrey D. and Shirley A. Baker Scholarship, established by Luther College Regents in recognition of Dr. Jeffrey and Shirley Baker's leadership and service to Luther College from 1996-1999, shall be awarded to students who show need of financial assistance.

The Barnes and Engel Memorial Scholarship, established by Steven '74 and Paulette (Engel) Barnes '74 in honor of their parents, Roy and Thelma Barnes and Warren and Frances Engel, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance. First preference shall be given to students from the Gladbrook-Reinbeck and/or North Scott Community School Districts in Iowa.

The Janet and Norman E. Barth Scholarship, established by Janet (Hellie) '50 and Norman Barth '50, shall be awarded to students who can show evidence of need for financial assistance.

The Charles and Ann Beatty Family Global Learning Scholarship, established by the Beatty Family to promote student mobility, cross cultural learning, and global citizenry, shall be awarded to qualified students with preference given to students studying abroad for the first time.

The Marion and Peggy Beatty Family Scholarship, established by Peggy (Hall) Beatty '74, shall be awarded to qualified students who are studying abroad. Students are encouraged to be citizens of the world (ambassadors), interacting with local people/cultures in addition to their studies. During and/or at the conclusion of their study abroad, students are encouraged to reflect on their experience and share their reflections in writing, or as a program for other students, their home congregation, a local civic group, or with the scholarship's benefactor.

The Jim Beile Memorial Scholarship, established by family and friends in memory of Jim Beile '80, scholar, athlete, and friend. The scholarship shall be awarded to students with good scholastic records.

The Bentdahl Scholarship, established by E.E. "Ray" Bentdahl '59, shall be awarded to students who are graduates of New Ulm Public High School, New Ulm, Minnesota, and preference will be given to qualified students whose address is Hanska, Minnesota, which is located within the New Ulm School District.

The Alvin C. Berg Scholarship, established through a gift of life insurance through the estate of Alvin C. Berg, class of 1955, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance.

The Arthur P. and Mary Louise Bergee Endowed Scholarship, established by Art, class of 1930, and his wife, Mary Louise Bergee, to commemorate the long association Art Bergee has had with Luther College as a student, regent, campaign chairman, class agent, and many other forms of assistance and support. This scholarship shall be awarded to students who can show evidence of need for financial assistance.

The Junior Bickle Scholarship, established in 1964 by Mrs. Selma Hougen, in memory of her son, Junior Bickle, a Luther student from 1941-1943 who was killed during World War II in Italy. The scholarship is awarded to students who have maintained a good academic record.

The Victor and Muriel Bjorgo Foundation Scholarship, established through the estate of Victor B. Bjorgo, shall be awarded to qualified students in need of financial assistance.

The Black Alumni Association Scholarship was established in memory of the African-American past and present slain victims of racism in America by Perran Wetzel IV '79 and Loretta Dooley Wetzel '80, co-presidents of the Black Alumni Association, and Willie '84 and Denise Davismckennie '82, co-presidents of the Alumni Council, along with: Sherry (Braun) Alcock '82, Barbara Fuller '72, Rufus '74 and Debra (Hopson) Glasper '73, Douglas '82 and Shelly Kintzinger, J. Robert '78 and Barbara Paulson, Arne '80 and Ruth Sorenson, Jenifer K. Ward, James '82 and Constance Whitesell, and through gifts from alumni, faculty, staff, and friends of Luther. As supporters of Luther College and the liberal arts education it offers, it is time for us to take a stand for Black lives. Black Lives Matter. All Lives Matter. Humanity Matters. Providing access to quality postsecondary education is one of the many steps necessary to move towards equality in America. The scholarship shall be awarded annually to qualified African-American students with demonstrated need for financial assistance. Preference shall be given to students active in community engagement

The Susan Maclay Blackman Fellowship for Study Abroad, established by Susan (Maclay) Blackman '64, shall be awarded to qualified students who can show evidence of financial need, for study in a developing region of the world (Eastern Europe, Asia, Africa, or Latin America).

The Marie and Ploma Blaha Endowed Scholarship, established by Ploma Blaha, shall be awarded to an incoming first-year student from northeast Iowa, preferably Monona, who graduated in the upper 25% of his/her high school class and who can show evidence of need for financial assistance.

The Dr. Nancy Bluemel Study Abroad Scholarship, established by Nancy (Larson) Bluemel '62, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance for a study abroad experience while at Luther.

The Michael and Betty Borge Scholarship, established by Michael '38 and Betty Borge to provide scholarship support for students from the Cambridge-Lake Ripley Public School District, Wisconsin. If none, candidates may be considered from the Deerfield School District then from Dane or Jefferson County, Wisconsin.

The Boulanger-Turner Family Scholarship, established by Cathy (Turner) '69 and Jay Boulanger, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance. First preference shall be given to first-generation immigrant students, with second preference given to first-generation students.

The Boyken Family Scholarship, established by Quentin and Inez Boyken in honor of Edward O. Boyken '34 and his grandchildren, Scott E. Boyken '07 and Eric R. Boyken '11, this scholarship shall support students from North Central Iowa near the Boyken and Rippentrop family hometown of Titonka including Kossuth county and its neighboring counties. If a qualified student cannot be determined from this area, the scholarship shall be awarded to any other deserving student as determined by the director of financial aid.

The Julius J. and Joanna Jacobson Brauer Scholarship, established through the estate of Julius Brauer, class of 1901, shall be awarded to students with demonstrated need for financial assistance.

The Brenden/Wilson Scholarship, established by Debra Wilson '71 and Peggy Brenden '76, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance. Preference shall be given to female students from St. Cloud, Minnesota, St. Paul, Minnesota, and/or Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

The Marie C. Brincks Memorial Scholarship, established by Marie's parents, Leo and JoAnn Brincks, and many friends to recognize and honor her commitment to transfer students interested in Luther College. Awards shall be made to students with a minimum of a 2.75 transfer grade point.

The Bruening Rock Products Inc. Scholarship, established in appreciation of the longstanding association between Bruening Rock Products and Luther College and in memory of Leo Bruening, founder, shall be awarded to first-year or sophomore students who work hard, are in good academic standing, and have potential to become leaders, with preference given to dependent sons and daughters of employees of Bruening Rock Products, Inc.

The C. Norman Brunsdale Endowed Scholarship, established by Edson and Margaret (Brunsdale) Larson in honor of Norman Brunsdale, class of 1913, and his service to society as Governor of North Dakota, a U.S. Senator, and a Luther College Regent, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance.

The G. Elmer Brunsdale Memorial Scholarship, established by Edson and Margaret (Brusndale) Larson, shall be awarded to students on the basis of academic achievement, financial need, and potential for success in their chosen field.

The Brunsvold Endowed Scholarhip Fund, established by Myrtle Brunsvold in loving memory of her husband, Emil Brunsvold, and in honor of her brother-in-law, Jorgen Brunsvold, and in memory of their grandfather, Jorgen Brunsvold, who lived in Decorah and who served on the original building committee of Luther College. The scholarship is awarded to students with demonstrated need for financial assistance.

The Bunge Family Scholarship, established in honor and memory of Hilda and Franklin Bunge and their descendants, shall be awarded to a qualified student who has demonstrated a commitment to learning and service. Preference shall be given to students with need for financial assistance, and should be awarded to an incoming first-year student and held for the four years he/she is a student, unless deemed ineligible to qualify.

The Donald N. and Joan E. Bungum Scholarship, established by Donald '53 and Joan Bungum, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance. Preference shall be given to students who do not have access to the higher levels of academic merit-based awards.

The Lavern and Audrey Busse Scholarship, established by Lavern and Audrey Busse, shall be awarded to academically qualified students who are members of Ascension Lutheran Church, Marion, Iowa and/or St. John's Lutheran Church, rural Plainfield, Iowa. If no students are available, then awards shall be made to students from the area which surrounds the two churches in Marion and Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Plainfield, Iowa and its school districts of Nashua, Tripoli, and Waverly-Shell Rock. Financial need shall not be a requirement to receive this scholarship.

The Butterfly Fund, established by Ann Bolinger, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance, specifically to cover unmet financial need, and is meant to be awarded to an incoming student and renewed each year the student us in attendance.

C 

The Calgaard Study Abroad Scholarship, established by Gene (Flom) '58 and Ron Calgaard '59, shall be awarded to students with financial need in support of their Luther College study-abroad educational experience. Upper class students shall have preference for these awards.

The Camcar-Textron Scholarship, to be awarded to dependent sons and daughters of employees of Camcar-Textron, Decorah, Iowa, during their first year; if none, upper class students may qualify to receive awards. In years when no dependent of a Camcar-Textron employee is eligible, the awards shall be given to other deserving students who are Winneshiek County residents.

The David Carlson Endowed Scholarship, established by David W. Carlson '85, shall be awarded to qualified students who can show evidence of need for financial assistance.

The Harley C. and Joyce Kvaalen Carlson Scholarship for Lutheran Camp Counselors, established by Harley C. Carlson, regent emeritus, and his wife, Joyce (Kvaalen) Carlson, shall be awarded to qualified students who can show evidence of financial need, who are involved in the campus congregation, and who have served as a summer counselor at one of the Lutheran summer camps, preferably Christikon Lutheran Bible Camp, McLeod, MT and/or Good Earth Lutheran Bible Camp, Spring Valley, MN.

The Dr. Paula J. Carlson and Rev. Dr. Thomas H. Schattauer Scholarship, established by David Lietz, class of 1988 and Regent Emeritus, and his wife, Suzette Derrevere, in honor of President Paula Carlson and her husband, Rev. Dr. Thomas Schattauer. May this serve as recognition and thanks for President Carlson's service and dedication to the Luther College community and mission, serving as the college's tenth President. The scholarship shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance, specifically to cover unmet financial need, and is meant to be awarded to an incoming student and renewed each year the student is in attendance.

The Alan and Rebecca Carpenter Endowed Scholarship, established by Alan '62 and Rebecca Carpenter, shall be awarded to qualified first-year students with demonstrated need for financial assistance, who do not receive academic merit scholarship awards from Luther College.

The Elmer B. and Charlotte T. Cato Scholarship, established by Elmer B. Cato '49, shall be awarded to qualified students who can show evidence of need for financial assistance.

The Col. L.C. Christensen Charitable and Religious Foundation Scholarship, established by the Col. L.C. Christensen Charitable and Religious Foundation, to be awarded to students in need of financial assistance.

The Christy Family Scholarship, established through the estate of James and Dorothy Christy, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance.

The Carl Andreas Carlsen Christy Scholarship, established by Blanche Christy in memory of her father, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance.

The Christine C. Cihlar Memorial Scholarship, established by Fred Rippy in memory of his late wife, Chris Cihlar '70, whose energetic spirit contributed to the Luther community as a student leader, loyal alumna, and administrator. The scholarship shall be awarded to qualified students who can show evidence of financial assistance, and who are of high academic standing and leaders in co-curricular activities.

The Class of 1931 Scholarship, established by the Class of 1931, shall be awarded to a student who has proven academic excellence in his/her first year, and who has demonstrated need for financial assistance.

The Class of 1933 Scholarship, established by the Class of 1933, awarded to students with financial need who ranked in the top 25% of his/her high school class or who has a 25 ACT test score or above. Preference given to descendants of 1933 class members.

The Class of 1941 Scholarship, established by the Class of 1941, to be awarded to students who have proven academic excellence with demonstrated financial need.

The Class of 1942 Scholarship, established by the Class of 1942, to be awarded to students who can show evidence of need for financial assistance.

The Class of 1948 Scholarship, established by the Class of 1948, to be awarded to students who can show evidence of need for financial assistance.

The Class of 1949 Scholarship, established by the Class of 1949, to be awarded to students who can show evidence of need for financial assistance.

The Class of 1951 Scholarship, established by the Class of 1951, to be awarded to qualified students who show evidence of financial need, with preference given to descendants of the 1951 class members.

The Class of 1953 Scholarship, established by the Class of 1953, to be awarded to qualified students who show evidence of financial need, with preference given to descendants of the 1953 class members.

The Class of 1954 Scholarship, established by the Class of 1954, to be awarded to qualified students who show evidence of financial need, with preference given to descendants of the 1954 class members.

The Class of 1957 Scholarship, established by the senior class of 1957, to be awarded to qualified students who show evidence of financial need.

The Class of 1962 Scholarship, established by the Class of 1962, to be awarded to qualified upper class students who can show evidence of need for financial assistance.

The Class of 1964 Scholarship, established by the Class of 1964, to be awarded to qualified students who show evidence of financial need, with preference given to descendants of the 1964 class members.

The Ralph and Ethel Colrud Scholarship, established by Ralph '49 and Ethel Colrud, shall be awarded to qualified students who can show evidence of need for financial assistance, with consideration given to students from Faith Lutheran Church in Rosholt, Wisconsin and/or New Hope Lutheran Church in Amherst Junction, Wisconsin. If there are no students from these two congregations, consideration will be given to students from the Rosholt, Wisconsin Area School System, or to students from Portage or Marathon Counties in Wisconsin.

The Gardner and Florence Call Cowles Endowed Scholarship Fund, established by the Gardner and Florence Call Cowles Foundation, shall be awarded to qualified students who can show evidence of need for financial assistance.

The John F. Crawford Scholarship, established by John Crawford '60, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance, with first preference given to students with disabilities.

The Cultural and Racial Diversity Scholarship, established by the faculty, staff, alumni, and friends of Luther to provide financial assistance to qualified African American, Asian American, Hispanic/Latino, and Native American students who are citizens of the United States.

D 

The Bert M. and Mildred O. Dahl Scholarship, established through the estate of Bert and Mildred Dahl, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance. Preference shall be given to students who graduated from a high school in the state of California.

The Edward H. Dahly Scholarship, established by Edward H. Dahly, a life-long friend of Luther College, shall be awarded to students with demonstrated need for financial assistance. Preference shall be given to students from Southern Minnesota and Northeast Iowa.

The LeRoy and Colleen Darby Family Scholarship, established by LeRoy and Colleen Darby, shall be awarded to students from Northeast Iowa who can show evidence of need for financial assistance, with preference given to students from the Monona or Elkader school districts.

The Thor and Wendy Davidson Study Abroad Scholarship, established by Thor '93 and Wendy (Jaycox) Davidson '92, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance to support study abroad experiences.

The Willie and Denise Davismckennie Scholarship, established by Doug Kintzinger '82 and Rachel (Kintzinger) Harpham '90, shall be awarded to qualified students from the inner city of Chicago or the Bahamas who can show evidence of financial need and a strong work ethic, and who contribute to the diversity of Luther's student body.

The C. H. and Elaine E. DeBuhr Family Scholarship, established by Elaine (Anderson) DeBuhr, class of 1944, shall be awarded to qualified students who can show evidence of need for financial assistance.

The DECO Products Scholarship, to be awarded to the dependent sons and daughters of employees of DECO Products, Decorah, Iowa.  When no DECO Products employee is eligible, the scholarship shall be awarded to a student from Winneshiek County.

The Decorah Bank and Trust Company Endowed Scholarship shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance, with preference given to students from Winneshiek or Howard County.

The Decorah College for Women (1932-1936) Scholarship, established by the Decorah College for Women Committee, shall be awarded to either an entering first-year student in the top ten percent of his/her high school class with demonstrated need for financial assistance, or to a returning student with a minimum GPA of 3.0 with demonstrated need for financial assistance.

The Dettmann Family Scholarship, established by David '71 and Jenee (Nelson) Dettmann '72, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance. Preference given to students from Bettendorf and Davenport, Iowa.

The Anton DiGiovanni Scholarship, established by Anton DiGiovanni, shall be awarded to qualified students from Wisconsin, with preference given to students from Milwaukee County and adjoining counties, who demonstrate a need for financial assistance.

The Jonathan Doering Scholarship, established by Jonathan Doering '90, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance, with preference given to students of a Lutheran High School. If none, then to students whose parents are Lutheran school teachers or the award will revert to a student of need.

The Mark and Vicki Donhowe Family Scholarship, established through an estate provision by Mark '70 and Vicki (Mohlis) Donhowe '70, shall be awarded to descendants of Mark and Vicki Donhowe. In the event that no descendant is available, preference should be given to qualified students first from Winneshiek County, Iowa, and then from Story County, Iowa.

The Wilbur H. Dosland Scholarship, established by Wilbur Dosland, shall be awarded to qualified students who can show evidence of need for financial assistance.

The Dotseth Family Legacy Scholarship, established by Jeffrey '80 and Joni Dotseth and Laura Dotseth '86 and David Larsen, to be awarded to qualified students with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher, in any major, with preference given to students participating in extra-curricular activities.

The Drews Brandt Family Scholarship, established by Ruth Drews '76 in honor of the influence Luther has had on the five generations of the Brandt and Drews Family, shall be awarded to students with demonstrated financial need in good academic standing, with preference given to students of diverse ethnic backgrounds from urban (or any) areas who otherwise might not have the opportunity to attend a private liberal arts college.

The Shannon (Miller) and DeLane Duval Scholarship, established by Shannon (Miller) '95 and DeLane Duval, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance, specifically to cover unmet financial need, and is meant to be awarded to an incoming student and renewed each year the student is in attendance.

E 

The East Clermont Lutheran Church Founding Congregation Scholarship, established by Roger and Lois Amundson, Millard Gilbertson, and Dean and Elise Kittleson, in honor of their pioneer parents who had the vision and faith to organize East Clermont Lutheran Church in 1851, and to reaffirm their commitment to the nurture and propagation of the Christian faith as a founding congregation of Luther College. The scholarship shall be awarded to qualified students who can show evidence of need for financial assistance. Preference shall be made to students from East Clermont Lutheran Church, or to students from the Clermont-Elgin area.

The Edwards Family Scholarship, established by Richard '64 and Patricia (McCullough) Edwards '63 in honor of their parents L.M. and M.G. Edwards and M.W. and G.J. McCullough, and their children, Jonathan '88, Ann '90 and Julie '95. The scholarship shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance.

The Sonja Carlsen Egenes Scholarship, established by John Egenes in honor of his wife, Sonja, who served on the Luther College Board of Regents, shall be awarded to qualified students who have a GPA of 3.0 or higher and can show evidence of need for financial assistance.

The Kenneth W. Ehler Scholarship, established by Kenneth Ehler, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance.

The Lillian E. Ellerman Endowed Scholarship, established by Lillian Ellerman, shall be awarded to qualified students who can show evidence of need for financial assistance.

The Martin V. Ellerman Memorial Scholarship, established by Lillian Ellerman in memory of her brother, shall be awarded to qualified students who can show evidence of need for financial assistance.

The Martin V. Ellerman, Ida Ellerman Radke, Alvida Ellerman Hale and Lillian E. Ellerman Scholarship, established by Lillian Ellerman to honor her brother and sisters, shall be awarded to qualified students who can show evidence of need for financial assistance.

The Gilkeson Emans Endowed Scholarship, established through the estate of Helena Gilkeson Emans, to be awarded to qualified students who can show evidence of need for financial assistance.

The Dorothy Rolfs Emmons Scholarship, established by Evelyn (Rolfs) '51 and Jack Martin in memory of Evelyn's mother, shall be awarded to qualified students who can show evidence of financial need, with preference given to students from Winneshiek County.

The Tanya Marie Enstad Memorial Scholarship, established by her parents, O. L. and Segrid Enstad, awarded with preference given to assist any disabled or disadvantaged students, or to students interested in music.

The John C. Esse and Katinka Bilsie Endowed Scholarship, established by John Esse '25, shall be awarded to a qualified student who can show evidence of need for financial assistance.

The Farwell Endowed Scholarship honors Luther's sixth President and his wife, E.D. and Helen Farwell. Recipients must be National Merit Scholars or high ability minority or Native American students.

The E.D. Farwell Presidential Scholarship, established in honor of Dr. E.D. Farwell, the sixth president of Luther College, to be awarded each year at the sole discretion of the current president of Luther College.

The Oliver C. Ferguson Endowed Scholarship, established by Oliver Ferguson '27, shall be awarded to qualified students who can show evidence of need for financial assistance.

The Greg '77 and Vickie Fields African American Student Scholarship, established by Greg '77 and Vickie Fields, shall be awarded to qualified African-American students with demonstrated need for financial assistance.

The First Lutheran Church Women Current Scholarship, established by the First Lutheran Church Women, Decorah Iowa, shall be awarded to students who are members of First Lutheran Church and are past their first year.

The Fjeldstad/Losen Scholarship, established by C. Alford Fjeldstad, Jr. in memory of his parents, Dr. C. Alford Fjeldstad '05, and Nora Hjermstad Fjeldstad, Lutheran Ladies Seminary '13, Red Wing, Minnesota, and in honor of his sister, Joan (Fjeldstad) Losen '53. The scholarship shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance.

The Ruth N. Fjelstad Access and Opportunity Scholarship, established by Ruth N. Fjelstad, professor emerita of Spanish, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance, and is meant to be awarded to an incoming student and renewed each year the student is in attendance. This scholarship provides full- or partial-need scholarship support to offset the average Luther-funded scholarship award.

The Ruth N. Fjelstad Scholarship, established by Ruth N. Fjelstad, professor emerita of Spanish, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance.

The Lillian Fjelstul Scholarship, established by Robert '66 and Lynne Fjelstul, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance.

The Dennis Flatness Memorial Scholarship, established by Ken Kotiza in memory of Dennis Flatness '68, regent emeritus, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance.

The Jan and Tim Fleming Endowed Scholarship, established by Janet (Strube) '67 and Tim Fleming '67, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance, with preference given to minority students.

The A. N. and Florence B. Fogdall Endowed Scholarship, established by Larry Fogdall '62, shall be awarded to qualified students who can show evidence of scholastic merit.

The Louis and Pauline Frank Family Scholarship, established through an estate gift by Gene Frank '69, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance, with preference given to students from rural Iowa.

The Ronald L. Fretheim Family Scholarship, established by Karen (Paulson) Fretheim '63 in honor and memory of Ronald L. Fretheim '61, to be awarded to qualified third or fourth year students with demonstrated need for financial assistance, who exemplify the qualities that made Ron Fretheim '61 admired by his classmates, professors, and coaches at Luther: solid academic effort, genuine care for fellow classmates and teammates, and active participation in campus life.

The A. Kenneth and Ercyle White Frey Scholarship, established by Phyllis Frey, shall be awarded to a qualified student who is a committed Christian and who can show evidence of need for financial assistance. Preference is given to a scholastically average student from a foreign country who has faced adversity and hardship.

The D. C. Friedlund Family Scholarship, established by Duane C. '34 and Mary E. Friedlund in memory of their son, Jim, whose life was cut short at the early age of thirty-five in an aircraft accident. This scholarship shall be awarded to first-year students, with or without regard to financial need.

The Friends of International Students Scholarship, established by alumni and friends of the college interested in supporting the diversity of Luther's student body, shall be awarded to international students with significant financial need.

The Gamble-Skogmo Endowed Scholarship, established by the B.C. Gamble and P.W. Skogmo Foundation, shall be awarded to qualified students from the Twin Cities area with demonstrated need for financial assistance.

The Richard and Lorraine Gandrud Scholarship, established by Richard '50 and Lorraine Gandrud, shall be awarded to students from Minnesota, with preference given to students from Pope County, Minnesota, with or without regard to financial need.

The John Garwood Endowed Scholarship, established by Doug Kintzinger '82, shall be awarded to qualified students who can show evidence of need for financial assistance with preference given to students from Vinton, Iowa and Decorah, Iowa.

The Tomina Germanson Scholarship, established through the estate of Tomina Germanson in memory of Mathilda Haraldson and Henry Germanson, shall be awarded to students with demonstrated need for financial assistance.

The Myhren I. and Margaret Gjerde Scholarship, established by Margaret Gjerde in memory of her husband Myhren '34, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance, with preference to students with an interest in athletic activities.

The Steven '76 and Julie (Huntting) Grandgeorge '77 Scholarship, established by Steven '76 and Julie (Huntting) Grandgeorge '77, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance.

The Carl F. Granrud Memorial Scholarship, established by Robert Granrud, past regent, shall be awarded to either a) entering students in the top twenty percent of his/her class with demonstrated financial need, or b) upper class students with a minimum of 3.0 GPA with demonstrated financial need.

The Alma Everlyn Gray Study Abroad Scholarship, established by Phyllis Gray '73, shall be awarded to qualified, high-need U.S. students eligible for the college's diversity scholarship to assist with the opportunity to participate in study-abroad programs.

The James B. Gray Family Scholarship, established through the estate of Andrew J. Gray '92 in honor of his parents, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance.

The John P. and Janice Engle Gray Scholarship, established by Jan (Engle) '62 and John Gray, shall be awarded to qualified upper class students with demonstrated need for financial assistance.

The Gregerson Scholarship, established by Larry and Zylpha Gregerson to celebrate the education that their son Mark '99 received at Luther, shall be awarded on the basis of merit to outstanding students who have been named Presidential or Regent's Scholars, regardless of financial need.

The Gregg Family Scholarship, established by Leon and Linda Gregg, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance, with first preference given to students from Rochester, Minnesota. If no qualified students, then to students from the southeast Minnesota area.

The Landis Gross Scholarship, established in recognition of the pastoral ministry of Reverend Landis Gross '57 by Beverly and David Gross, along with family, friends and members of the congregations Rev. Gross served. The scholarship shall be awarded to qualified students from the following congregations: Immanuel Lutheran, Earlville, IA; St. John's Lutheran, Hopkinton, IA; Norway Lutheran and Marion Lutheran, St. Olaf, IA; Lutheran Church of the Resurrection, Marion, IA; St. Peter Lutheran, Pocahontas, IA; St. Paul Lutheran, Sheldon, IA; and St. Paul Lutheran, Manson, IA. If there are no qualified students, then awards may be made to students from Decorah Lutheran Church, Decorah, IA.

The Charlotte B. Schilling Grue Scholarship, established by Mary Ellen (Grue) '52 and Vernon C. Iverson '50 in recognition of Charlotte (Schilling) Grue '47 25 years of dedicated service in the Luther College Health Service, and her special challenge as a non-traditional Luther student who attained her degree in 1947 at the age of forty-four. The scholarship shall be awarded to students with demonstrated need for financial assistance, with preference given to older non-traditional students.

The Irvin W. and Marie Colrud Gunther Family Scholarship, established by Marie Colrud Gunther, shall be awarded to students with demonstrated need for financial assistance, with preference given to those students first, from St. Timothy Lutheran or, second, from Our Redeemer Lutheran congregations, both of Menasha, Wisconsin. If there are none, the third preference shall be given to students from the Neenah-Menasha School District.

H

The H and H Distributing Company, Inc., Endowed Scholarship, established to provide scholarships for students from North High School, West Union, Iowa, or the close surrounding area who show evidence of financial need.

The Stanley and Violet Hagen Scholarship, established by a couple who wish to remain anonymous, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance who demonstrate academic excellence with a minimum 3.0 grade point average. Preference shall be given to students who are U.S. citizens and who show promise and good academic rigor.

The Alvida C. Hale Memorial Scholarship, established by Lillian E. Ellerman in memory of her sister, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance.

The Jessie F. Hallett Memorial Scholarship, established by the Hallett Charitable Trusts, shall be awarded to students from Minnesota who show evidence of need for financial assistance.

The Mark and Karen Halvorson Scholarship, established by Mark '68 and Karen (Trygstad) Halvorson '69, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance.

The Hansen Family Scholarship, established by Thomas L. Hansen '77, Willis M. Hansen, and the Hansen family, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance. Preference shall be given to students from Savage and Burnsville, Minnesota and Chickasaw County, Iowa, including students from Turkey Valley and New Hampton High Schools.

The Carroll M. and Alice F. Hanson Scholarship, established by Jean Hanson '71, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance.

The Dr. J. Tillman and Mildred Hanson, Dr. Paul T. Hanson, and Rhys E. Hanson Family Scholarship, originally established by Dr. Paul T. Hanson, D.D.S, class of 1951, in memory of his parents, Dr. J. Tillman, D.D.S., class of 1918, and Mildred Hanson, the scholarship now honors and celebrates Paul (1930-1995), as well as his brother, Rhys E. Hanson, class of 1956 (1934-2021). The scholarship shall be awarded to qualified returning Luther students, with or without regard to financial need.

The Hanson-Borreson Family Scholarship, established by Eugene '59 and Naomi (Borreson) Hanson '61 in honor and memory of the multiple generations of family members who make up the legacy of the college, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance.

The Hanson-Koch Scholarship, established by Fred '73 and Stephanie (Hanson) Koch '73 in honor of their children, Timothy Koch, and Christina Dietz, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance.

The Sheryl K. Haug Memorial Scholarship, established by Rev. Joan Haug in memory of her daughter, Sheryl '94, shall be awarded to full time students who: a) serve as a RA in the residence halls or are interested in a career in college student life, and b) have a GPA of 2.5 or higher.

The Haugland Family Scholarship, established by Rev. Ray '55 and Dorothy Haugland '90 and their children, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance who are either children of Lutheran clergy or children of Lutheran teachers and are involved in extra-curricular activities.

The William Randolph Hearst Endowed Scholarship Fund, established by the Hearst Foundation, shall be awarded to qualified minority students with demonstrated need for financial assistance.

The Heileman Endowed Scholarship, established by the Heileman Foundation, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance from La Crosse, Wisconsin and/or Dubuque, Iowa.

The Peter F. and Lucille R. Heintz Scholarship, established by Lucille Heintz, shall be awarded to qualified students who can show evidence of need for financial assistance, with first preference given to students from Chickasaw County, Iowa, or if none, from any rural area.

The William A. Heintz Scholarship, established by William Heintz, shall be awarded to qualified students who can show evidence of need for financial assistance, with first preference given to students from Chickasaw County, Iowa, or if none, from any rural area.

The Mark and Lois Helland Family Scholarship, established by Mark '71 and Lois (Lebakken) Helland '71, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance.

The Clara and Henry Hellie Scholarship, established by Lowell Hellie and Janet (Hellie) Barth on behalf of the Hellie family in memory of their parents Clara and Henry Hellie, shall be awarded to qualified students in good academic standing.

The Dayton J. and Amy O. Henderson Endowed Scholarship, established by Dayton '79 and Amy Henderson, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance.

The Dayton J. and Amy O. Henderson Study Abroad Scholarship, established by Dayton '79 and Amy Henderson, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance to be used for a study-abroad experience.

The Rev. Wayne and Ruth Henderson Scholarship, established in honor of Wayne '51 and Ruth Henderson by their children (Daniel '73, David '76, and Dayton '79), shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance.

The Abner A. and Lola M. Hendrickson Scholarship, established by Abner '26 and Lola Hendrickson to commemorate Abner's career in public education, especially his administration of programs for students with physical disabilities, shall be awarded to qualified students with physical disabilities that have a demonstrated need for financial assistance.

The Lars and Niels Herrmann-Anderson Scholarship, established by Jutta F. Anderson, shall be awarded to students who can show evidence of need for financial assistance and are participating in a study-abroad experience for a January-term.

The Kristi Lee Hermeier Scholarship, established by the family in memory of Kristi Lee Hermeier '78, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance. Preference shall be given to students who have an interest in serving in church related program, including: active involvement in the student congregation, employment at summer bible camps, an interest in serving in church ministry, and majoring in church music.

The Herndon Family Scholarship, established by Larry and Jane Herndon, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance. Preference will be given to students who have demonstrated leadership and a strong religious conviction in the Christian faith.

The William and Norma Hervey Scholarship, established by Norma Hervey, professor emerita, shall be awarded to qualified international students with demonstrated need for financial assistance. Preference shall be given to students based on academic achievement and/or excellence.

The Lois Hill Studies Abroad Scholarship, established by Lois Hill '85, shall be awarded to qualifed students with demonstrated need for financial assistance who wish to participate in a study abroad program.

The John Olson Hjelle and Anne Stumley Memorial Scholarship, established by Albert Hjelle '24, shall be awarded to qualified first-year students with demonstrated need for financial assistance.

The Yvonne Ho Scholarship, established by Yvonne Ho '76, shall be awarded to qualified students with a demonstrated need for financial assistance.

The Jim and Betty Holey Scholarship, established by Jim '49 and Betty Holey, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance.

The Clifford and Valerie Holien Scholarship, established by Clifford and Valerie Holien, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance.

The Stephen W. Holmgren Memorial Scholarship, established by friends and classmates of Stephen Holmgren '86, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance with preference given to students from the Quad Cities area.

The Mary Jo Homstad Scholarship, established by Scott Addington '69 in memory of Mary Jo Homstad '69, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance.

The Philip '98 and Lorelee Hood Scholarship, established by Philip '98 and Lorelee Hood, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance. 

The Jeff and Ellen Hoover Current Scholarship, established by Jeff '69 and Ellen Hoover, shall be awarded to qualified African students with demonstrated need for financial assistance. Preference shall be given to students from the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The Selma B. Hougan Scholarship, established through the estate of Selma Hougan, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance.

The Robert and Arlene Houlihan Scholarship, established by Bob and Arlene Houlihan, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance.

The M. House Promise Scholarship, established by Marilyn House '69, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance, specifically to cover unmet financial need, and is meant to be awarded to an incoming student and renewed each year the student is in attendance.

The Harold and Gina Hove Scholarship, established by Harold '32 and Gina Hove to encourage qualified graduates of Waldorf College to complete their baccalaureate studies at Luther College, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance, with preference given to those students who have graduated from Waldorf College and are transferring to Luther College.

The Hovland-Jones Family Scholarship, established by Michael Hovland '72 and Nancy Jones '69 with special gratitude for their sons, Sven and Bjorn, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance.

The Hoyem Family Scholarship, established by David '66 and Carole Hoyem, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance who have demonstrated steadfastness to the Christian faith through leadership, service, and participation in their home congregation. Consideration will also be given to current students exhibiting leadership, service, and participation in the Luther College student congregation.

The Nick Huber Memorial Scholarship, established by Joel '02 and Catherine (Ernste) Haugen '02 in memory of Nick Huber '02, shall be awarded to qualified students with a demonstrated need for financial assistance.

The Gerhard Hystad Scholarship, established through the estate of Gerhard Hystad '23, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance, with preference given to students from Kandiyohi County, Minnesota.

The International Student Women's Current Scholarship, established by Richard Simon Hanson, professor emeritus of religion, with the understanding that the cost for the educational opportunities of international students can be prohibitive. The awards shall be given as additional scholarship support above and beyond the normal financial assistance, with preference given to female international students.

J 

The Timothy R. Jacobsen '89 and Reuben Pacheco Current Scholarship, established by Timothy Jacobsen '89 and Reuben Pacheco, shall be awarded to qualified students with a demonstrated need for financial assistance who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender.

The Jacobson Endowed Memorial Scholarship, established by Reuben Jacobson '28, regent emeritus, and his wife, Mary, in loving memory of Reuben's parents, Thomas and Bertha Jacobson, shall be awarded to students who, with their families, will provide approx. one-half the funds needed and who do not qualify for sufficient outright grants from public and private sources based on financial need, academic, or musical ability. Preference given to students who come from alumni families and other families who have a long-standing interest in Luther College who are deserving of scholarship support by demonstrating good citizenship and who are or have been involved in volunteer community service in their home communities or at Luther.

The Thomas F. and Frances M. James Scholarship, established by Thomas and Frances James and Douglas James, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance.

The Henry and Josephine Jansen Memorial Scholarship, established through the estate of Margaret J. Baker in memory of her parents, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance.

The Jeld-Wen Foundation Scholarship, established by the Kintzinger family, shall be awarded to qualified students whose parents work at a JELD-WEN Company, and then to students from a town where JELD-WEN has an operation. If none, preference shall be given to students who can show evidence of need for financial assistance with a strong work ethic and integrity.

The Floyd and Ragna Jensen Memorial Scholarship, established through the estate of Floyd Jensen, shall be awarded to qualified students with a demonstrated need for financial assistance.

The Rev. Canute and Emma Jenson Memorial Scholarship, established through the estate of Lois D. Jenson '51, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance.

The Carl Arthur Jessen Scholarship, established through the estate of Carl Jessen '09, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance.

The Glen M. and Kathryn L. Johnson Scholarship, established by Glen '70 and Kathryn (Selzer) Johnson '71, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance.

The John A. Johnson Foundation Current Scholarship, established by the John A. Johnson Foundation, shall be awarded to qualified students from Wisconsin, with a demonstrated need for financial assistance.

The Leon A. and Anna S. Johnson Endowed Scholarship, established by Anna Johnson, shall be awarded to qualified students with a demonstrated need for financial assistance from Stevens or Pope Counties in Minnesota. If no eligible students from those counties, then from students from the state of Minnesota.

The Orville and Kathleen Johnson Current Scholarship, established by Orv and Kathy Johnson, shall be awarded to qualified international students who can show evidence of need for financial assistance. Preference shall be given to married students.

The Orville and Kathleen Johnson Regents' Promise Scholarship, established by Orv and Kathy Johnson, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance, specifically to cover unmet financial need, and is meant to be awarded to an incoming student and renewed each year the student is in attendance.

The Lois Valborg and Leigh D. Jordahl Scholarship, established by Leigh Jordahl '45 in memory of his wife, Lois (Valborg) Jordahl '79, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance.

The Gerald A. and Agnes M. Jorgenson Family Scholarship, established by Gerald and Agnes Jorgenson in memory of James L. Jorgenson and Geraldine (Jorgenson) Rambo '68, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance.

The J-Term International Study Scholarship, established by David Pendergast '02, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance, with preference given to students who (a) committed to a January-term study abroad trip through Luther College or otherwise, (b) have not previously traveled outside the United States, and (c) have demonstrated a multicultural understanding and a liberal worldview during the course of their studies at Luther College.
