The Barbara Bahe Endowed Scholarship Fund, established by friends, colleagues, and former students of Barbara Bahe, in appreciation of Barbara, for her life of devotion and dedication to Luther College, where she taught for over thirty years. The scholarship shall be awarded to a native-speaking German student from a university in Germany, Austria, or German-speaking Switzerland to attend Luther College, or to a Luther student to study in a German-speaking country.

The Ruth Caldwell and Uwe Rudolf Studies Abroad Scholarship, established by Ruth Caldwell and Uwe Rudolf, shall be awarded to qualified students based upon their demonstration of financial need and/or their exceptional academic standing who are seeking study abroad opportunities in French speaking countries. In a year where there are no students who plan to study in a French speaking country, consideration may be given to students who qualified for study abroad programs in other countries.

The Lori Beckman Conway Endowed Scholarship, established by Lori Beckman '83, shall be awarded to qualified students in need of financial assistance, with preference given to Norwegian language or Scandinavian Studies majors. If none are available, the scholarship can be awarded to students in other majors who wish to study abroad in a Scandinavian country.

The Randa J. Duvick Scholarship, established by Donald and Selma Duvick in honor of their daughter Randa '78, to be awarded to qualified students who can show evidence of financial need with preference given to those intending to major in French.

The Ingeborg Goessl Study Abroad Scholarship, established by Ingeborg (Bader) Goessl '60, shall be awarded to qualified students, with preference given to students with a demonstrated need for financial assistance, who desire to study abroad. Students will be selected based on: a) German majors/minors (especially future German teachers) wishing to study abroad or experience an internship in a German speaking country; b) Students of other majors wishing to study in a German speaking country. During residency abroad the recipient must be enrolled in an approved course of study at an accredited institution. If no qualified applicants apply to study abroad, the scholarship may be awarded to a qualified German major or minor.

The Rasmus J. and Gudrun K. Thorson Harr Scholarship, established by the Harr family, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance, with preference given to those intending to major in Scandinavian studies.

The Alison A. Hill Memorial Scholarship, established by James '66 and Nancy (Loftus) Hill '68 in memory of their daughter, Alison '02, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance majoring in French, History or English.

The Kathryn E. Kalsow Scholarship, established in memory of Kathryn Kalsow '61, shall be awarded to qualified students in the field of Scandinavian Studies with a demonstrated need for financial assistance.

The Madeleine Langrand and André Thélia Memorial Fund for French Studies, established by Michel Thélia in order to encourage the exchange of students and study opportunities between Luther College and French-speaking universities. The scholarship shall be awarded to support a qualified student who wishes to spend a semester or year of study in France in an exchange program with a qualified French-speaking student who would study at Luther College. The selection of the student(s) shall be made by a committee of the department of modern languages French division.

The Brianne Lee Spanish Scholarship, established by family and friends to honor Brianne Lee '78, who died of cancer during her first year of graduate studies in Spanish at Marquette University. In keeping with Brianne's excellence as a student and her leadership in the Spanish program, the recipient of the award will be determined by the following criteria and in consultation with all permanent faculty in the Spanish section of the department of modern languages: (1) the recipient must be a senior majoring in Spanish with solid evidence that completion of the major is imminent; (2) the student recipient must show academic excellence by having a minimum overall GPA, as well as a Spanish GPA, of 3.5; (3) the recipient will have shown a strong degree of commitment to the Spanish program as evidenced by participation in some of its many extracurricular and service opportunities; (4) the recipient will have indicated future career goals that will incorporate the use of Spanish and knowledge of Hispanic cultures; and (5) the student will be expected to participate in Spanish department activities during their senior year by registering for a class or the senior project, or through some other academic contribution as determined in conjunction with the faculty.

The Nicolas Remfrey Memorial Scholarship, established by Brian '98 and April (Johnson) Remfrey '98, shall be awarded to qualified students majoring in a modern language to be used for a study abroad experience in a country where the language that the student is majoring in is spoken.

The Steven B. Schaver Spanish Studies Scholarship, established by Steven Schaver '76, shall be awarded based on: sixty percent (60%) of the annual spending allowance will support accepted and enrolled Latino/Hispanic students who are low-income and/or first generation that demonstrate academic potential for success; and, forty percent (40%) of the annual spending allowance shall support students, with or without regard to financial need, participating in the Spanish program who plan to study abroad to build Spanish language skills. First preference shall be given to students with demonstrated need for financial assistance majoring or minoring in Spanish.

The Ella Valborg Rolvaag Tweet Scholarship in Scandinavian Studies, established by Ella Tweet, shall be awarded to qualified students showing evidence of need for financial assistance enrolled in Norwegian lanugage and Scandinavian Studies. Special preference shall be given for students to study in Norway.

The Otto and Sigrid Vaaler Scholarship, established by Sigrid Vaaler, shall be awarded to qualified students who can show evidence of need for financial assistance majoring in education, Scandinavian Studies, or music, or those students participating in music organizations. Preference shall be given to students from La Crosse, Wisconsin, or the Minnesota communities of Spring Grove, Caledonia, Blackhammer, or Wilmington.

The Wigeland/American-Scandinavian Foundation Scholarship, established through the estate of G. Norman Wigeland in conjunction with the American-Scandinavian Foundation, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance to study abroad in Scandinavian countries (Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden).

The Bruce and Amy Wrightsman Scholarship, established by Amy (Mueller) Wrightsman '01 in memory of her husband, Bruce Wrightsman, who devoted his life to teaching and helping others and who had a special interest in and led numerous student study trips to the U.S.S.R./Russia and Eastern Europe. The scholarship shall be awarded to qualified students who are participating in Luther's study abroad program, for those students studying in the area currently known as Russia.
