The Robert and Amy Amunrud Scholarship Fund, established through the estate of Robert Amunrud, shall be awarded to students who are participating in some music organization on campus with a first preference for those studying pipe organ.

The Arthur and Walter Anderson Scholarship, established through the estates of Arthur and Walter Anderson, elderly bachelor brothers who lived a simple life farming together the family farm near Russell, Minnesota and who enjoyed performing as members of the Over 60 Band in nursing homes and at community functions. The scholarship shall be awarded to qualified students who can show evidence of need for financial assistance, with a first preference for those students participating in some music organizations on campus.

The Jim and Pat Anderson Music Scholarship, established by Jim and Pat Anderson, shall be awarded to qualified students who can show evidence of financial assistance with a first preference going for those students participating in some music organizations on campus.

The Dr. Roger W. and Amme E. Anderson Endowed Scholarship, established by Roger '48 and Amme Anderson, shall be awarded to qualified students who can show evidence of need for financial assistance with a first preference given to students majoring in Education or Music.

The Dorothy M. Ansett Scholarship, established by Betty (Ansett) Witte and Lois Ansett in honor of Dorothy Ansett, great-grandmother to Benjamin Kratchmer '10 and Angela Kratchmer '13. The scholarship shall support two students, who by audition and selection by the Conductor of the Luther College Symphony Orchestra, have been named principal player of cello and principal player of second violin, in the symphony. This scholarship is awarded on the basis of merit alone. In any given year that the spending allowance exceeds the stated amount for two awards above, additional merit based scholarships may be awarded to deserving symphony orchestra players.

The Otto and Esther Austin Family Scholarship, established by Arthur Austin for the Austin Family in loving memory of their parents, Otto and Esther Austin. This scholarship shall be awarded to students in good academic standing who have demonstrated talent or potential talent in music. The recipient(s) need not be music majors, but must have a strong interest in music study and performance.

The Bachelder Endowed Scholarship Fund, established by George O. and Loretta A. Bachelder, shall be awarded to a worthy sophomore, junior, or senior student with financial need. Preference shall be given to a business major, a music major, a major in the medical area, or an art major.

The Donna Mae Haugen Bahr Music Scholarship, established by Jan M. Larson in honor of her mother, Donna Mae Haugen Bahr, a 1953 graduate of Luther College, shall be awarded to qualified students who can show evidence of need for financial assistance, with preference given to music majors with vocal performance.

The Rosemary Barenz Encouragement Scholarship, established by Rosemary Barenz '78, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance, with a preference given to female students interested in vocal studies.

The Helen Astrid Barton Memorial Scholarship, established through the estate of Helen Astrid Barton, shall be awarded to students involved in the music program who can show evidence of need for financial assistance.

The Barbara De Barry Bauman Scholarship, established by Barbara Bauman in honor of her grandfather, J.C.K. Preus, Luther class of 1902, shall be awarded to qualified students who can show evidence of financial assistance. Preference shall first be given to students pursuing a major/career in music education, and second, to students majoring in music.

The Roger D. and Carol J. Berg Scholarship, established through the estate of Roger and Carol Berg, shall be awarded to qualified students who can show evidence of need for financial assistance, with first preference given to nursing students and students participating in Luther's music activities.

The Carol J. Birkland Scholarship, established by Carol Birkland, class of 1967 and her husband, Thomas Woxland, to be awarded to qualified students who can show evidence of financial need with first preference given to members of Nordic Choir to enable them to participate on music tours abroad.

The David P. Borders Endowed Scholarship Fund, established through the estate of David P. Borders '73, shall be awarded to qualified students who can show evidence of financial assistance and who are participating in some Luther sponsored music organization on campus.

The Alan R. and Sally J. Brudos Prize for Opera Performance, established in celebration of the two generations of Luther College graduates in the Brudos family, including Alan R. Brudos '55, Eric C. Brudos '85, and Ginger (Felland) Brudos '85, is awarded each year to the outstanding opera performance student for use in his or her senior year. A committee selected by senior voice faculty shall determine the winner based upon quality of performance and promise. Each year, the Brudos Prize recipient will perform the Alan R. and Sally J. Brudos Recital during which members of the Brudos family may publicly award the prize.

The Hugh Conkey Music Scholarship, established through the estate of Hugh Conkey, shall be awarded to qualified students who can show evidence of need for financial assistance with preference given to students enrolled in courses in piano and applied music.

The Edith A. Copley Music Scholarship, established by Edith Copley '74, shall be awarded to qualified students, with or without demonstrated need for financial assistance, who are members of the Nordic Choir. Preference shall be given to senior students who have demonstrated leadership in the choir and who show potential for success as a choral music educator.

The Joan deAlbuquerque Memorial Prize for Band was established in memory of former Luther College Director of Bands, Dr. Joan deAlbuquerque. The mission of the prize is to encourage, recognize and promote musical excellence by showcasing exceptionally talented students to a broad audience. The scholarship shall be awarded to the recipient(s) of the band (wind/brass/percussion) concerto competition. An audition process to select the prize recipient will be held in the academic year in which the competition takes place. Preference shall be given to members of the Luther College Concert Band, however, it shall be open to other students participating in a Luther College instrumental ensemble at the discretion of the Director of Bands. The audition process will be managed by the Director of Bands. Selection of the recipient(s) is at the discretion of the Director of Bands, in consultation with a committee of adjudicators.

Dr. Joan deAlbuquerque was an inspirational conductor of the Luther concert band from 2011-2020. She passed away on September 6, 2021 at the age of 54. Joan received her Bachelor of Music Education degree from Michigan State University and earned a Master of Music degree in Wind Conducting from Michigan State University, where she studied with John Whitwell. She earned her Doctorate in Wind Conducting at the University of North Texas while studying under Eugene Migliaro Corporon, and graduated with a 4.0 GPA. Joan was a great and caring musician and conductor, loved by all for her passion for music. She was a teacher, band director, adjudicator, conductor, professor, pianist, singer, flutist, and published author in music textbooks. Joan was Band Director at Adams State University in Colorado and Associate Director of Bands at California State University, Long Beach. At Luther, Joan was Associate Professor of Music and Director of Bands for 9 years (2011-2020). Joan's bands performed internationally, including Norway, Spain, Iceland and notable locations throughout the U.S. including Disney Hall in Los Angeles. Joan was also a clinician in Israel, sharing her love of teaching music.

Joan was the first female Director of Bands at Luther College. She was proud to follow in the footsteps of legendary Luther conductors who had made Luther famous for musical excellence, and was determined to build on that legacy. Joan was known for highlighting the connection between the music generated on stage with the “music” each student generated in their personal lives. While her passion for music was highly inspirational to students and audiences where ever she taught, it was also impactful throughout professional music associations, as well as local, and regional communities.

The John Dewey Memorial Music Scholarship, established by the parents of John Dewey, shall be awarded to seniors engaged in the study of voice and violin. Faculty members of the Luther College Music Department shall select the recipients of this award.

The Roger C. and Carolyn J. Eigenfeld Scholarship, established by Roger and Carolyn Eigenfeld, shall be awarded to qualified students majoring in the sciences, mathematics, or music with a demonstrated need for financial assistance.

The Laura M. and Martin K. Elstad Scholarship, established by Martin Elstad, class of 1935, shall be awarded to qualified students who can show evidence of financial assistance with preference given in alternating years to a female physical education major and then to a male science or music major.

The Henrik and Marcia Engebretson Endowed Scholarship, established by Henrik '57 and Marcia (Borreson) Engebretson '58 in honor of their children Erik '82, Kari '84, and Maren '91, and shall serve to endow the Erik, Kari, and Maren Engebretson Chair for Principal Horn in the Luther College Symphony Orchestra. The recipient will be chosen through a process of auditions under the guidance of the conductor of the orchestra.

The Tanya Marie Enstad Memorial Scholarship, established by her parents, O. L. and Segrid Enstad, awarded with preference given to assist any disabled or disadvantaged students, or to students interested in music.

The Virginia Baker Faldet Memorial Scholarship, established by friends and family in loving memory of Virginia Baker Faldet, in recognition of her years of service to Luther College, shall be awarded to qualified students who can show evidence of financial need, with preference given to students interested in music and who live in Northeast Iowa.

The Richard A. and Ann K. (Stauffer) Flisrand Scholarship, established by Ann (Stauffer) '66 and Richard Flisrand, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance. Preference shall be given to students who participate in a music organization or ensemble.

The Forde-Preus Music Scholarship, originally established as the Mrs. O.J.H. Preus Music Scholarship, to honor Magdalene Forde Preus, the wife of Luther's fourth president, Ove J.H. Preus '01, who served from 1932 to 1948. The scholarship name was changed in 1994 to recognize not only Magdalene Forde Preus' love of music, but to honor other Forde and Preus family members who also have musical interests. The scholarship shall be awarded to qualified students with an interest in music.

The Ron Fox Scholarship, established by alumni to recognize the importance Professor Emeritus Ron Fox had in the musical development of students, shall be awarded to support music lessons for students whose primary performance area is trumpet, and secondly, if needed, horn or low brass. This scholarship is intended to reward a top scholar/performer, the selection of which shall be made at the recommendation of the trumpet faculty.

The Dr. Ronald and Carole Fox Music Scholarship, established by Dr. Ron Fox, professor emeritus of music, and his wife Carole, shall serve to endow the Dr. Ronald and Carole Fox Chair for Principal Trumpet in the Luther College Symphony Orchestra, and be awarded to the student who, by audition, is selected to serve as the principal player of the trumpet selection in the symphony orchestra.

The Friends of International Touring Scholarship, established by alumni and friends of the college in appreciation of the quality of the academic music program and the importance of ensemble performance and international touring, shall be awarded to students who are full members in Concert Band, Jazz Orchestra, Nordic Choir, or Symphony Orchestra, who desire to travel internationally (on a scheduled ensemble tour) and who would be unable to without assistance in covering authorized travel costs. Students may be selected whether or not they have a formal designated financial need, but must be recommended in writing and with reason to the director of financial aid by the respective ensemble director.

The Charles A. Fritz Memorial Scholarship, established by L. Eliel '40 and M. Marion Fritz in honor and memory of Charles A. Fritz '11, shall be awarded to students with demonstrated need for financial assistance enrolled in pre-seminary courses and/or participating in music organizations.

The Robert and Nancy Gandrud Family Scholarship, established by Robert and Nancy Gandrud, shall be awarded to qualified students who are music majors and can show evidence of need for financial assistance.

The Stuart J. Geiger Endowed Scholarship, established by Stuart Geiger '82, shall be awarded to students majoring in accounting who are active in a Luther College choir with a grade point average of 2.5 or above.

The Newt and Callista Gingrich Scholarship, established by Callista (Bisek) '88 and Newt Gingrich, shall be awarded to qualified students with instrumental music majors studying piano, organ, or wind instrument. The funds are to be used by the student for instrumental music lessons.

The Mark and Karen Gould Endowed Scholarship in Organ and Church Music, established by Rev. Mark '79 and Karen Gould, shall be awarded to students with demonstrated need for financial assistance. Consideration will be given to upper-level students studying organ who have a strong affinity and passion for church music and playing for liturgical services.

The Andrew J. Gray Memorial Scholarship, established by family and friends in honor and memory of Andrew J. Gray, alumnus, class of 1992. The scholarship shall be awarded to one (1) incoming first-year student who meets the following requirements: a) is a graduate of Spring Grove Public Schools, Spring Grove, Minnesota; and b) is a member of a first-year choral ensemble. The scholarship is without regard to financial need.

The David Greedy Memorial Scholarship, established in celebration of the life and vibrant teaching career of David Greedy, professor emeritus of music, to be awarded to an upper class voice student as selected by the music department voice faculty of Luther College. 

The Richard C. Hefte '53 Memorial Scholarship, established by the Chief Justice Roger L. Dell Charitable Trust in honor of Richard Hefte '53, shall be awarded to qualified students who have graduated from a high school located in Otter Tail County, Minnesota. Preference shall be given to students with strong academic performance and to students participating in music programs, preparing for careers in medicine or law. Richard C. Hefte was a native of Caledonia, Minnesota. He practiced law in Fergus Falls, Minnesota, from 1958-1993, when he was appointed to the Workers Compensation Court of Appeals by Governor Arne Carlson. Richard served as judge of that court until his retirement in 1999.

The Richard C. and Joann M. Hemp Family Prize for Orchestra Performance, established by Richard '64 and Joann (Harr) Hemp '65, shall be awarded annually, through an audition process, to rising seniors who are members of the Luther College Symphony Orchestra.

The Abner A. and Olivia C. Hendrickson Memorial Music Scholarship, established through the estate of Abner Hendrickson '26, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance majoring in music, with preference given to students who are residents of Allamakee, Howard, or Winneshiek counties in Iowa.

The Kermit and Nora Hendrickson Low Brass Lesson Scholarship, established by Nora (Forde) Hendrickson '49, shall be awarded to provide music lessons for students who play a low brass instrument in a Luther ensemble.

The Fay M. Henning-Bryant '64 and Delano E. Bryant Concert Band International Touring Scholarship, established by Fay Henning-Bryant '64, shall be awarded to students who are full members of the Luther College Concert Band who desire to travel internationally with the band and who would be unable to without assistance in covering authorized travel costs. Students are selected based on a demonstrated need for financial assistance, or whose financial circumstances would prevent them from going on an international tour.

The Dr. Sigvart A. Hofland Memorial Scholarship, established in memory of former music professor and composer-in-residence, Dr. Sigvart A. Hofland, shall be awarded to qualified students majoring in music with a demonstrated need for financial assistance.

The Hogenson Family Scholarship, established by Alice (Hogenson) Kienberger-Iverson '54 in honor of her parents, George and Bertha Hogenson, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance participating in a study-abroad experience, with first preference given to students majoring in music.

The James O. and Katherine Holum Music Scholarship, established by Justine (Holum) '50 and Paul Lionberger '49 to honor the memory of Rev. James O. Holum '08, whose participation in musical activities at Luther, particularly the 1914 band tour to Norway, was a significant influence on his life, and to honor the memory of Katherine Holum '46, recitalist, church musician, and founder of the music library at the University of Minnesota. The scholarship shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance who are majoring in music or participating significantly in music organizations. Preference will be given to students from Westby-Coon Lutheran congregation or to students from Westby, Wisconsin.

The Engebret Nelson (Sebo) Hong Scholarship, established by Anna Hong in memory of her father who graduated in 1871, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance, with preference given to students who are residents of Norway who desire to prepare themselves for careers in teaching, government service, business, social services, performing arts, law or medicine.

The M. House Endowed Scholarship, established by Marilyn House '69, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance, with preference given to students majoring in music and/or education.

The Clara Hoyt Scholarship, established in recognition of the contributions of the late Miss Clara Hoyt to the Luther College Music Department as a former assistant professor, shall be awarded to qualified students majoring in music with demonstrated need for financial assistance.

The Helen (Hoff) James Music Scholarship, established by Helen (Hoff) James '65 and Betty Hoff '60, shall serve to endow the Helen (Hoff) James Chair for Principal Bassoon in the Luther College Symphony Orchestra, and be awarded to the student who, by audition, is selected to serve as the principal player of the bassoon section in the symphony orchestra.

The Jenson Music Scholarship, established by Martin '19 and Avis Jenson, shall be awarded to students with demonstrated musical and academic ability who are participating in at least one major music organization.

The Darlene (Peterson) Jones and Robert Jones Scholarship, established by Robert Jones in memory of Darlene (Peterson) Jones '55, shall be awarded to students who, by audition, are chosen by the voice faculty to perform in a lead role, or roles, of the annual spring opera performance. Students may or may not have demonstrated financial need.

The Dr. Marian I. Jordalen Scholarship, established through the estate of Clarence L. Jordalen in honor of Dr. Marian Jordalen, the former head of the music department of Sacramento State College, shall be awarded to qualified music majors with demonstrated need for financial assistance.

The Marlin and Lillian Jordan Music Scholarship, established by Lynne (Jordan) Enerson '63 and Douglas Jordan '61 in memory of their parents, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance, with preference given to voice, piano, and organ students.

The Blanche Y. Kangas Scholarship, established by Blanche Kangas, shall be awarded to qualified students with a demonstrated need for financial assistance and who qualify for Federal Pell grants or other similar Federal assistance. This award shall be made in addition to other need-based aid. First preference shall be given to students who are in hand bell choir or incoming first-year students who will be in hand bell choir, with second preference given to junior or senior bass clarinetists who are members of the Luther College Concert Band.

The Monica Ike Kasel and Gordon F. Kasel Music Scholarship, established by Monica (Ike) '78 and Gordon Kasel, shall be awarded to deserving music education majors who are members of the Luther College Concert Band without regard to financial need. Preference shall be given to students from rural areas of Minnesota.

The Lawrence and Adelaide Keeney Current Scholarship shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance, with preference given to a female student majoring in the arts.

The Linka C. Kempf Music Scholarship, established through the estate of Linka Kempf, shall be awarded to qualified music students who can show evidence of need for financial assistance.

The Mary L. Kipfer Scholarship in Music, established by Lawrence '54 and Mary (Buchholz) Kipfer '55, shall be awarded to qualified junior or senior students, with or without a demonstrated need for financial assistance, who demonstrate academic excellence with a minimum 3.5 grade point average. Preference shall be given to students majoring in music, with second preference going to students majoring in the arts.

The Wayne Kivell '61 Music Scholarship, established by Wayne Kivell '61, shall be awarded to qualified sophomore, junior, or senior students majoring in music, with a demonstrated need for financial assistance. Preference should be given to students who aspire to a career in vocal music education, or to continue on to graduate study in choral conducting.

The Kerry Knodle Scholarship for Percussion, established by Kerry Knodle '72, shall serve to endow the Kerry Knodle Chair for Principal Percussion in the Luther College Symphony Orchestra, and be awarded to the student who, by audition, is selected to serve as the principal player of the percussion section in the symphony orchestra.

The William and Carolyn Kobler Family Scholarship, established by William '70 and Carolyn (Peterson) Kobler '70, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance participating in the pre-medicine program. Preference shall be given to students who are participating in a music organization or ensemble. If no eligible pre-medicine students are identified, second preference shall be given to students preparing for a career in a healthcare profession.

The Kristi Buckneberg Kuh Memorial Scholarship, established by George Kuh '68 and family and friends in memory of Kristi (Buckneberg) Kuh '69, and to perpetuate her love of music and education. The scholarship shall be awarded to qualified students with vocal music interest and talent, to provide assistance in paying for his/her voice lessons.

The Donald Larson Memorial Scholarship, established in memory of Donald Larson, former long-standing member of Luther's music faculty, shall be awarded to music majors with demonstrated need for financial assistance.

The Lee Family Music Scholarship, established by Ronald Lee '62 and Marie Bender-Lee, shall be awarded to qualified music majors with a first preference given to incoming first-year or transfer students who have declared composition, piano, clarinet, saxophone, or voice to be their principal applied area of study.

The James and Martha Limburg Luther College Concert Band Scholarship, established by James '56 and Martha (Ylvisaker) Limburg '56, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance who are members of the Luther College Concert Band.

The Willard and Yvonne Linnevold Scholarship in Music, established by Drs. Rebecca (Linnevold) '71 and Robert Shaw to honor Willard and Yvonne Linnevold for their lifetime commitment to music, higher education, and Luther College. The scholarship shall be awarded to qualified students majoring in music, with or without regard to financial need.

The R. Justine and Paul H. Lionberger Scholarship, established by Paul '49 and Justine (Holum) Lionberger '50 to commemorate Paul's ancestral relative, Rev. Hans B. Thorgrimsen, class of 1879. A native of Iceland, Hans came to the United States to attend Luther. While a student, Hans organized the Luther College Concert Band and from 1878-1879 he served as its director. The scholarship shall be awarded to qualified students who are participating in music organizations on campus.

The Bernhard and Eleanor Lokensgard Scholarship, established by Marilyn (Lokensgard) '57 and Ronald Martinson '57 in loving memory of Bernhard '29 and Eleanor Lokensgard, shall be awarded to qualified students who can show evidence of need for financial assistance. Preference shall be given to upper-class students who intend to enroll in a Lutheran seminary in preparation for ordained ministry or who are majoring in music in preparation for a church music career.

The Lovell Family Scholarship, established by James '79 and Janis (Miller) Lovell '80 in appreciation of the family's education and experience as alumni: Jim '79, Janis '80, Katie '07, and Beckie '11. The scholarship shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance, with preference given to biology or music majors who participate in a music ensemble.

The Mildred L. Lund Scholarship, established by Orville Running, professor emeritus of art, in memory of his wife, Mildred, shall be awarded to qualified students with preference given to female students majoring in vocal music.

The Luther College Symphony Orchestra Vienna Residency Scholarship, established by faculty, staff, alumni and friends of the college in honor of the 50th anniversary of the Luther College Symphony Orchestra, shall be awarded to qualified members of the LCSO who desire to travel internattionally as part of the Vienna Residency program, and who would be unable to attend without assistance in covering authorized costs of the program. The Luther College Symphony Orchestra celebrated its 50th anniversary during the 2019-2020 academic year (first organized in 1877, but revived in 1970 with a full-time director). During the fifty years since its first performance in 1970, hundreds of Luther College musicians have given themselves--time, energy, talent, body and soul--to the ensemble. Every four years since 1977, over 80 Luther student musicians live, practice, and perform for three weeks during the month of January as part of the Vienna Residency Program. This residency includes daily rehearsals and coursework, often on current and historic aspects of Vienna, led by Luther professors. While music is at the heart and soul of the residency, Luther students also experience some distinctive Viennese traditions, as well as side trips to Prague, Budapest, and Salzburg. This endowment will ensure this unique experience is available to all talented, committed student musicians, regardless of financial circumstance.

The Ellen Knudson Mather Memorial Scholarship, established by Dr. and Mrs. Frederik Lord in memory of Ellen Knudson Mather, to be awarded to outstanding music students in need of financial assistance.

The Anne (Mattson) '84 and Mitch McAnallen Scholarship, established by Anne (Mattson) '84 and Mitch McAnallen, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance who are members of Nordic Choir and who are majoring in accounting, economics, or management. If no suitable candidates are found in Nordic Choir, students from Collegiate Chorale or Cathedral Choir may be considered.

The Dennis and Nancee Melin Music Scholarship, established by Dennis '64 and Nancee Melin, shall be awarded to qualified students who are members of the Luther College Concert Band, preferably in the trumpet section.

The Kathryn Ulvilden Moen Fund for Organ and Church Music, established by Kathryn (Ulvilden) Moen '41 in celebration of the three generations of family members who have attended Luther College. This fund, supported by the Kathryn Ulvilden Moen Fund of the InFaith Community Foundation, creates the Kathryn Ulvilden Moen Organ Scholars, awarded to outstanding organ students who are prospects for a career in performance or church music. If no students qualify, outstanding cello students may be chosen, and shall be recognized as the Kathryn Ulvilden Moen Cello Scholars.

The Mrs. Robert C. Moen Music Scholarship, established by Robert Moen '36 in memory of his wife Gladys, shall be awarded to music majors, with preference given to those studying vocal music.

The Herman W. and Hulda Monson Scholarship, established in honor of Herman '14 and Hulda Monson by their children, Paul '50 and Betty (Phelps) Monson '50, and Luther '51 and IvaNell (Mundt) Monson '51. The scholarship shall be awarded to qualified students who can show evidence of need for financial assistance, and who have shown an interest in music composition or conducting.

The Alida Motland Endowed Music Scholarship, established through a bequest from Alida N. Motland, in memory of her parents Peter Andreas Ingemundsen and Martha (Maakestad) Motland, shall be awarded to qualified students, based on financial need, who are participating in any official Luther College music group, ensemble or organization.

The Deborah (Leschensky) '77 and Michael Murrell Scholarship, established by Deb (Leschensky) '77 and Mike Murrell, shall be awarded to qualified students from any major interested in organ or piano. The funds are to be used to support music lessons.

The Paul L. Myklebust Memorial Scholarship, established by family and friends in memory of Paul Myklebust. Paul graduated from Luther in 2005, and he died 9 years later, in 2014. He loved his time at Luther, singing in choir all four years and majoring in biology, and he co-founded Luther's Ultimate Frisbee program. The scholarship shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance, with preference given to students involved in a choral music ensemble and/or taking guitar lessons.

The Andrea Nelson and Kathryn Nelson Endowed Scholarship, established by David T. '49 and Betty (Rikansrud) Nelson '57 in honor of their daughters Andrea '81 and Kathryn '83, and shall serve to endow the Andrea Nelson and Kathryn Nelson Chair for principal viola in the Luther College Symphony Orchestra. The recipient will be chosen through a process of auditions under the guidance of the conductor of the orchestra.

The Millard and LaVonne Nelson Scholarship, established by Millard and LaVonne Nelson, shall be awarded to qualified students who can show evidence of financial need, with first preference given to students who are members of West Clermont Lutheran Church of Clermont, Iowa, and with second preference given to students majoring in music.

The Solveig Lee Nelson Music Scholarship, established by family and friends to honor the memory of Solveig Lee Nelson, shall be awarded to qualified female students, without regard to financial need, with a talent for playing string instruments.

The Ronald C. Newman Scholarship, established through the estate of Ronald Newman, shall be awarded to qualified students involved in instrumental music, with a preference to strings, based on merit.

The Njus-Sanderson Music Scholarship, established by Donald and Mavis Hoffman in honor of Michael and Torbjorg Njus, Iver and Clara Njus, William and Anna Sanderson, and Sjur G. and Bertha Sanderson. The scholarship shall be awarded to qualified students who can show evidence of need for financial assistance with demonstrated leadership and participation in his/her community or activities at Luther, and an interest in music. Preference shall be given to a student from a rural area or community in Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin, or Illinois.

The Weston Noble Anniversary Scholarship, established by alumni and friends in celebration of Weston Noble's fiftieth anniversary of teaching at Luther, and in appreciation of his dedication and ceaseless work in attracting talented and motivated students to attend Luther and participate in its music organizations. The scholarship shall be awarded to qualified students of any major who participate in a music organization and who can show evidence of need for financial assistance.

The Weston Noble Music Scholarship, established by Weston Noble '43, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance who have interest and ability in music.

The Franklin C. and Hildred O. Kronlokken Norman Scholarship, established by Hildy (Kronlokken) '54 and Frank Norman, shall be awarded to qualified students interested in music who can show evidence of need for financial assistance. Preference shall be given to students interested in vocal performance.

The Anna (Kemp) and Russell Norris Endowed Scholarship, established by Don and Jane Kemp in honor of the marriage of their daughter, Anna Mary Amanda to Russell Joseph Norris, and shall serve to endow the Anna (Kemp) and Russell Norris Chair for Principal Oboe in the Luther College Symphony Orchestra. The recipient will be chosen through a process of auditions under the guidance of the conductor of the orchestra.

The Fred Nyline Distinguished Award in Music, established by Jaime (Rowe) '00 and Matt Titus '01 in honor of Fred Nyline, professor emeritus of music. Fred Nyline conducted the Luther College Concert Band, Varsity Band, and the Wind and Percussion Ensemble for 38 years. He also taught advanced instrumental conducting. Before joining the Luther faculty in 1973, Nyline served on the faculty of the University of Minnesota as associate director of bands and director of the University Men's Chorus. He has been a guest faculty member at the University of Illinois and director of bands in the Austin, Minnesota school system. Nyline frequently served as guest conductor for the Musashino Academia Wind Ensemble in Tokyo, Japan. Nyline has served as festival director, guest conductor and adjudicator throughout the United States, Canada, Europe, and the Pacific Rim, including such locations as Alaska, Hawaii, Japan, Okinawa, Taiwan, Korea, Singapore, Malaysia and the Philippines. Under Nyline's direction, the Luther College Concert Band performed at numerous state and national music conventions, participated in yearly Midwest tours, two European tours, two extended tours of the West Coast and Hawaii, and three tours of Japan and China. The award shall be given annually to a junior or senior whose character, leadership, and participation in the music program demonstrates a strong contribution to the program in a way that embraces the spirit and mission of Luther College. The recipient must be participating in the Luther College Concert Band and be in good academic standing.

The Marie Louise Halvorsen Gibson Olsson Scholarship, established through the estate of Marie (Gibson) Olsson '41 who enjoyed singing in a Luther College choir while a student, shall be awarded to qualified students who can show evidence of need for financial assistance. Preference shall be given to students who participate in a music organization on campus.

The Ostermann Family Scholarship, established through the estate of Lucille Ostermann to honor the memory of her late husband, John, and his love of music, as well as her son, Robert, and her daughter, Shirley Jean Ostermann Boyken and her own love of music. The scholarship shall be awarded to qualified students who can show evidence of need for financial assistance and are participating in some music organization on campus.

The Erven and Marie Pederson Endowed Scholarship, established through the estate of Bertha Marie Pederson, shall be awarded to qualified students who can show evidence of need for financial assistance and are participating in some music organization on campus.

The Timothy and Sandra Peter Music Leadership Award, established by alumni, parents, and friends in celebration of the dedicated teaching and choral conducting careers of Timothy '86 and Sandra Peter, especially the profound influence they have had on the first-year student experience at Luther College. The scholarship shall be awarded to two first-year students, one member from each of the first-year choral ensembles (Aurora and Norskkor) with a one-time financial benefit for their sophomore year respectfully. Recipients shall be selected by the directors in partnership with the music department chair. Recipients shall be selected not only for their musicianship, but also for their personal leadership, commitment to ensemble, and their mutual respect for colleagues. Recipients may be music or non-music majors, shall be in good academic standing, and need not qualify for financial assistance.

The Peterson Scholarship, established by Gregory Mark Peterson '83 and Ann Sponberg Peterson, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated financial need, who are in excellent academic standing, with preference given to students who have a vocational interest in organ and church music. If needed, this award shall be given to music majors who demonstrated personal leadership and academic achievement.

The Dennis R. Rathjen Memorial Music Scholarship, established by Leonard and Mavis Rathjen in memory their son, Dennis '65, who passed away in 1968 from Hodgkin’s disease. The scholarship shall be awarded to qualified students majoring in music.

The Herman and Olga Hage Rosholt Scholarship, established by Robert '51 and Lucille Rosholt in honor of Herman and Olga Hage Rosholt, whose interest in conservation, sacred music and the church were inspirational to children and grandchildren. The scholarship shall be awarded to qualified students who can show evidence of need for financial assistance, with preference given to students majoring in environmental biology or music, or to students planning to enter church vocations.

The Lucille Stansberry Rosholt Distinction in Accompanying and Collaborative Keyboard Performance Award, established by Robert Rosholt '51, shall be awarded by competitive audition to sophomore or junior students based on: technical command of repertoire, musicality, excellence in ensemble, ability to inspire and work well with colleagues, and work ethic. A panel of judges will make the final selection.

The Lucille Stansberry Rosholt Scholarship in Music, established by Lucille Rosholt, shall be awarded to qualified students who can show evidence of need for financial assistance with preference given to students majoring in music.

The Ronald Seaver Music Scholarship, established by Ronald Seaver '54 in honor of his piano teacher, Kathryn Ulvilden Moen '41, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance who are majoring in music.

The Pastor Roger and Marilyn Skatrud Scholarship, established by Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, in appreciation and celebration of 39 years of parish ministry, music, and servant leadership by Roger '57 and Marilyn (Sorlien) Skatrud '58. The scholarship shall be awarded to qualified students in need for financial assistance, with preference given to members of Our Saviours Lutheran Church in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin. If none, preference shall be given to students pursuing study leading to full-time service in the church or in music.

The Ingvald B. and Helen C. Sorensen Memorial Scholarship, established through the estate of Ingvald Sorensen '36, shall be awarded to qualified students who can show evidence of need for financial assistance, with preference given to students majoring in music or pre-seminary studies.

The Audrey (Hanson) Sorlien and Marilyn (Sorlien) Skatrud Scholarship for Flute, established by Susan Sorlien '73 and Kara (Skatrud) Baylor '92 in recognition of Luther College's powerful tradition of music scholarship and performance, to honor the role the flute has played in the extended Sorlien family, and to honor their mothers who were both flute players--Audrey (Hanson) Sorlien '49 and Marilyn (Sorlien) Skatrud '58. The scholarship endows the Audrey (Hanson) Sorlien and Marilyn (Sorlien) Skatrud Chair for Flute in the Luther College Symphony Orchestra and the Luther College Concert Band, and is awarded to the student who, by audition, is selected to serve as the principal player of the flute section, rotating between the concert band and the symphony orchestra each year.

The Carleton A. Sperati Memorial Scholarship, established by Solveig Sperati Korte '74 in memory of her father, Carleton A. Sperati '38, Ph.D., chemist and musician. The scholarship shall be awarded to qualified chemistry majors who are participating in some music organization on campus, with first preference given to chemistry majors who are members of the Luther College Concert Band.

The Carlo A. Sperati Memorial Music Scholarship, established in honor and memory of Carlo A. Sperati, class of 1888, who served Luther College faithfully while a student and as a member of the faculty for 40 years, by the members of the 1914 and 1936 Luther College Concert Bands--having the privilege of touring the United States and the Scandinavian countries under his direction. The scholarship shall be awarded to qualified students of any major with demonstrated financial need to begin or continue their studies in the music department.

The John Irons Stearns Scholarship, established through the estate of Gretchen (Woldt) Stearns '35 in memory of her son, John, shall be awarded to qualified students from Stonington Deer Isle High School, Stonington, Maine, with preference given to students with an interest in art, music, or pre-medical studies.

The James M. Stellmacher Scholarship, established by Jon and Rebecca Stellmacher in honor of their son James '04, shall be awarded to students with a need for financial assistance and on the basis of outstanding academic achievement and character. Preference will be given to students majoring in music education or to the student awarded the chair of principal French horn in the Concert Band or Symphony Orchestra.

The Karl, Lillian, and Henrietta Torgerson Endowed Scholarship, established by Karl '36 and Lillian (Madland) Torgerson '65 and Henrietta Torgerson '39, in memory of Katherine M. Torgerson, Luther College carillonneur from 1977-1985, and to commemorate the family relationship with Luther since its founding. The scholarship serves to endow the Torgerson Concertmaster in the Luther College Symphony Orchestra (first violin) and the Luther College Concert Band (first clarinet). The recipients will be chosen through a process of auditions under the guidance of the conductors of the orchestra and the concert band.

The Terry N. Trimpe and Jason J. Nosek Scholarship, established by Terry Trimpe '70 and Jason Nosek '93 through the Greater Cedar Rapids Community Foundation, shall be awarded to graduates of Mount Vernon Community School District (Iowa) and Lisbon Community School District (Iowa). Scholarship awards shall be made to students who: a) show a need for financial assistance; b) have a minimum grade point average of 2.75; c) when the applicant pool allows, awarded to students majoring in business, biology, or any music related major.

The Carol Ulvilden Scholarship, established by Ollie Ulvilden '49 in honor of his sister Carol '50, shall be awarded to qualified students based on academic achievement and financial need, with preference given to students majoring in the field of music.

The Vaaler Family Scholarship, established by Thomas '62 and Juanita Vaaler, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance. Preference shall be given to students majoring in education or nursing who participate in one or more Luther College music organizations.

The Arthur M. Wisness Music Scholarship, established by Osmund Wisness '42 and Sylvia (Wisness) Storvick '52 in memory of their parents, Arthur '14 and Rose Wisness, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance majoring in music.

The James and Helen Wooster Scholarship, established by Sally (Wooster) Richardson '69 and Helen Wooster, shall be awarded to qualified students who can show evidence of need for financial assistance and have a GPA of 2.0 or higher in economics, accounting, or management. Preference shall be given to students involved in the music program.

The Dorothy (Bonnell) and Russell Ziemer Scholarship, established by Jane, Don, and Anna Kemp, in honor of Dorothy (Bonnell) and Russell Ziemer, aunt and uncle and also godparents to Jane Kemp. The scholarship also recognizes Dorothy Ziemer's parents, Anna and Benjamin Bonnell, in whose home Ben frequently played the trombone. The scholarship endows the Dorothy (Bonnell) and Russell Ziemer Chair for principal trombone in the Luther College Symphony Orchestra. The recipient will be chosen through a process of auditions under the guidance of the conductor of the orchestra.
