The John and Rose Marie Chell Family Scholarship, established by John and Rose Chell, shall be awarded to students in need of financial assistance with preference given to students majoring in religion or social work or who are pursuing a career in a human service area.

The Douglas L. Esse '71 Award in Political Science and Religion, established by Ann (Furman) Esse '71, shall be given in alternating years to a junior or senior political science or religion major. The faculty in each respective department will identify excellent papers over an academic year from sophomore through junior majors for review by the department. The respective department will select a student(s) paper deemed exemplary in its scholarship and the award shall be given in the ensuing academic year.

The Gerhard E. Frost Memorial Scholarship, established by Ivern (Johnson) Frost '53, in honor of the significant impact Gerhard Frost '31 had as a member of the Luther College faculty, shall be awarded to a junior or senior student interested in theological studies, with preference given to non-traditional aged students, if available, who can show a need for financial assistance.

The Richard Simon Hanson Scholarship, established by Allen '69 and Karen (Anderson) Peckham '69 in honor of Richard Simon Hanson, professor emeritus of religion, shall be awarded to qualified students who major in either religion or education.

The John and Dorothea Ofstedal Helms Scholarship, established by Dorothea (Ofstedal) '49 and John Helms in memory of Rudolph '21 and Edith Ofstedal, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance with preference given to those students intending to prepare themselves for church-related vocations.

The Erik Paul Nils Johnson Scholarship, established by Karen (Gulsvig) '61 and David Johnson in memory of Erik Paul Nils Johnson '94, a seeker and questioner devoted to studying the challenges to faith that arise when God's truth is placed in dialogue with the human quest for truth. The scholarship shall be awarded to a qualified full-time student who is recognized by the religion and philosophy department as a seeker, able and fearless enough to address difficult questions and ideas regarding our human relationship with God, good and evil, ethics and faith.

The Walter E. Wilson '50 Scholarship, established by Virginia Nelson, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance majoring in religion or philosophy, with preference for pre-seminary students if any are identified.
