The Marjorie V.Barth Prize in the Department of Art, established by Frank '40 and Marjorie (Hove) Barth '42, to be awarded to acknowledge academic performance and/or future potential to students majoring in art.

The Jan Reid Berg Art Scholarship, established by Warren '48 and Jan (Reid) Berg '49, shall be awarded to qualified students majoring in art who can show evidence of need for financial assistance.

The Helen Adams Bodensteiner Scholarship, established by Joseph '64 and John Bodensteiner '66 to commemorate their mother's long association with Luther College as a professor of speech and theatre, shall be awarded to one or more qualified sophomore, junior, or senior students who show talent and promise in speech and drama.

The John and Carole Lea Cotton Scholarship Fund Honoring Professor Douglas Eckheart, established by John Cotton, regent emeritus, and his wife, Carole Lea Cotton, in appreciation of Douglas Eckheart, professor of art, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance who are majoring in art.

The Debra and Mark Elstad Scholarship, established by Debra (Engelstad) '74 and Mark Elstad, shall be awarded to qualified students with a demonstrated need for financial assistance majoring in theatre or dance.

The Ruth Joshua English Theatre Scholarship, established through a trust by Cliff English's father, Dr. John English, shall be awarded to qualified students majoring in theatre and dance, with an emphasis given to those with an interest in theatre, who show evidence of need for financial assistance.

The Colin Y. Farbotko Memorial Scholarship, established by friends and classmates in memory of Colin Farbotko '00, shall be awarded to a qualified rising senior art major with or without regard to financial need. Preference shall be given to students interested in sculpture.

The Lorraine and Jesse F. Goetsch Scholarship, established by Jesse, Bruce and Cosette Goetsch in honor of Lorraine (Kochendorfer) Goetsch '34, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance. First preference shall be given to students majoring in art, with second preference given to students majoring in education.

The Jewel Theatre Arts Scholarship, established through the estate of Jewel W. Kintzinger, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance. Preference shall be given to students participating in the theatre program.

The Darlene (Peterson) Jones and Robert B. Jones Scholarship Fund, established by Darlene (Peterson) '55 and Robert Jones, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance, with preference given to students majoring in the visual arts, elementary education, or nursing.

The Lawrence and Adelaide Keeney Current Scholarship shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance, with preference given to a female student majoring in the arts.

The Huebner Kegarise Art Scholarship, established by Dorothy Kegarise, shall be awarded to qualified students majoring in art with demonstrated need for financial assistance.

The Professor John W. Kurtich Foundation Scholarship, established by the Professor John W. Kurtich Foundation for Study and Research, shall be awarded to a current student with interest in the arts and/or archaeology. Reflecting on the foundation's priorities and honoring the impressive career of Professor Kurtich, the college will select a recipient based primarily on merit; choosing a student who is among the 'best and brightest' in the areas of visual and performing arts, and/or archaeology.

The John A. Maclay Scholarship, established by Susan (Maclay) '64 and Paul Blackman in memory of John Maclay, shall be awarded to qualified students who can show evidence of need for financial assistance. Preference shall be given to students majoring in art, or if none meet the qualifications, to students majoring in other aspects of the humanities.

The Lennis Moore Scholarship in Art, established by Sandy (Sabin) Moore '74 in memory of her husband, Lennis '72, shall be awarded as a merit-based award to first-year students planning to major in art. Merit is determined on a portfolio review by the art faculty.

The Orville M. Running Memorial Art Scholarship, established by family, friends, and the Running estate in honor and memory of Orville M. Running, professor emeritus of art. In 1946, Orville Running signed a contract with Luther College to "instruct in art and religious education," and for the next thirty years worked as head of the art department helping to build a viable art program at the college. After the faculty senate voted to institute an art major at Luther College in 1957, Running helped expand the faculty and equipment for the department. Along with teaching and leading the Art Department at Luther College, Running managed the Fine Arts Festivals, an annual festival for the arts at the College, which extended from 1957-1966. As an ordained Lutheran minister, Running also taught courses in the Religion Department, delivered chapel talks, and preached in area churches. In 1976 he retired from full-time teaching, but continued to teach printmaking at Luther for the next decade. Known primarily for his colorful and highly popular woodcuts, Running was also an accomplished painter and draftsman who created liturgical commissions in wood and metal, fine calligraphy, and musical/theater backdrops. Running passed away on February 6, 2012, in Decorah, Iowa. The scholarship shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance majoring in art.

The Karen Saxvik Scholarship, established through the estate of Karen (Hess) Saxvik '64 with the Sioux Falls Area Community Foundation, shall be awarded to high-performing juniors or seniors majoring in dance.

The Sadie Simonson Memorial Art Scholarship, established through the estate of Chester Simonson to honor his wife, Sadie, who had a long-term interest in art. The scholarship shall be awarded to qualified junior or senior students majoring in art, with preference given to students showing artistic creativity and talent, not necessarily based upon financial need or academic performance.

The John Irons Stearns Scholarship, established through the estate of Gretchen (Woldt) Stearns '35 in memory of her son, John, shall be awarded to qualified students from Stonington Deer Isle High School, Stonington, Maine, with preference given to students with an interest in art, music, or pre-medical studies.

The Jerry and Barbara Twedt Scholarship, established by Jerry '57 and Barbara Twedt in honor of Jerry's 50th class reunion, shall be awarded to qualified students with demonstrated need for financial assistance majoring in theatre.

The Yes Scholarship for Art and Theatre, established by Phyllis (Dankers) Yes '63, shall be awarded to talented and qualified female students with financial need, with preference given to students in the visual and performing arts, including minors in musical theatre.

The Zumdahl-Asp Family Scholarship, established by Sharon (Zumdahl) '70 and Stanley Asp, shall be awarded to qualified junior or senior students with demonstrated need for financial assistance. First preference shall be given to students majoring in art education, with second preference given to students majoring in art.
