Prepare to Study Away

Studying off campus provides an exciting opportunity to see more of the world. Being well prepared for your trip can help make it a great experience.

What risks should you be aware of when studying away? Do you need more insurance? What happens if you get COVID-19 on your trip abroad? These are a few of the many important questions the Center for Global Learning can help you navigate before you go.

Luther students studying abroad on a Luther program will be enrolled in an accident and sickness insurance policy.

The policy covers the following:

  • General accident and sickness medical coverage while outside the U.S.
  • Emergency evacuation benefit
  • Accidental death, dismemberment, repatriation of remains
  • Trip cancellation, delay, interruption benefit

Finally, the insurance policy provides for 24/7 global travel assistance for enrolled individuals. This policy applies to all off-campus travel, excluding personal travel.

Prior to departure, you’re required to participate in a pre-departure orientation sessions devoted to reviewing health, safety, and security issues abroad.
