Kathryn L. (Selzer) Johnson, 1971

Kathryn L. (Selzer) Johnson, 73, of Spread Eagle, Wis., passed away unexpectedly June 11, 2022, at the Marshfield Medical Center-Dickinson, Iron Mountain, Mich.

She was born March 9, 1949, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the daughter of the late Arthur and Marie (Stuck) Selzer. Kathryn grew up in Iowa and graduated from Amana High School. She went on to attend Luther College in Decorah, Iowa, where she received her bachelor of arts degree. Kathryn later attended Concordia University, River Forest, Ill., where she received her master’s degree in education. She taught as an elementary school teacher at Marion Jordan Elementary school in Palatine, Ill., for 33 years before retiring in 2004. She married Glen Johnson on June 12, 1971, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Kathryn was a long-time member of Lutheran Church of Atonement in Barrington, Ill., and a member of Lutheran Social Service of Illinois Women’s Network. She was a current member of Christ the Lord Lutheran Church, Carefree, Ariz., and Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, Iron Mountain, Mich. She was also an active member of the Pine Grove Country Club, Iron Mountain, the Chippewa Club, Iron Mountain, and the Desert Mountain Club, Scottsdale, Ariz.

Kathryn was an avid reader and enjoyed playing bridge and golfing over the years. She also loved spending time with her beloved grandchildren.

Survivors include her loving husband of 51 years, Glen Johnson ‘70; one daughter, Anne Marie (Johnson) Leake ’99 (T.J. Leake ’99), Caledonia, Ill.; one sister, Barbara (Charles) Hoehnle, Homestead, Iowa; one brother-in-law, Mark (Shirley) Johnson, Sisters, Ore.; three grandchildren, Benjamin, Joshua, and Matthew; and six nieces and nephews.

Visitation and Memorial Service were held June 25, 2022, at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, Iron Mountain with Rev. Paul Strom officiating. Burial took place in Cemetery Park, Iron Mountain, Mich.

Memorials in Kathryn’s honor can be addressed to Christ the Lord Lutheran Church or Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church.
