Funeral services were held May 2, 2022, at Madison Lutheran Church, Decorah, with burial in the church cemetery.

John was born in Decorah on June 5, 1937, the son of Homer and Clara Inez (Albertson) Dahle. He was baptized and confirmed at Madison Lutheran Church, where he remained a lifelong active member. He attended rural school in Lincoln Township, graduated from Ridgeway High School in 1955 and also attended Luther College. After his father’s illness, he started farming near Ridgeway, which he continued until retirement.

John was united in marriage with Audrey (Hovden) Dahle ‘59 on Aug. 4, 1962. This union was blessed with four children, Jan Allen, Lance, Jolynn and Jenise.

He served as township field assessor and trustee for a number of years. He was employed as a relief postal clerk in Ridgeway and relief rural carrier in the Chester and Lime Springs areas.

John loved life and kept a positive attitude despite numerous health challenges. He enjoyed reading, playing cards, golfing, bowling and watching college sports and westerns. He also took baseball and fishing trips with buddies over the years. He was always ready to attend any meeting or social gathering. After moving to town, he was a senior volunteer with RSVP.

Trips to see his sister Irene and family in New Mexico were a highlight for him as well as other family car trips. When his grandsons arrived, he learned being a Grandpa was fun, too.

He is survived by his wife, Audrey (Hovden) Dahle ‘59 of Decorah; son, Lance Dahle of Decorah; daughter, Jolynn (Gerald) Pecinovsky of Protivin, Iowa; daughter, Jenise (Daniel) Lucero of Oklahoma City; grandson, Jarod, Jordan and step-grandson, Casey (Tracey) Lucero; step-great-grandchildren, Allerah, Michael, Logan and Aubree; brother-in-law, Alton Hovden; and several nieces and nephews.
