Emmett M. Gaunitz of Apple Valley, Minn., passed away March 22nd, 2022.

Born June 20th, 1935, in Lansing, Iowa. Son of Emmet E. Gaunitz and Martha A. (Johnson) Gaunitz. Attended primary school in Lansing and graduated from Luther College in 1957 with a B.A. in Business Administration. Married Donna Burns Nov. 17, 1962, in Deerwood, Minn. Spent most of his career working as an accountant for Apache Corporation in Minneapolis. Was a member of the Minneapolis Jaycees, a precinct chairman, worked with YMCA sports programs and was a member of the Minnesota National Guard for seven years.

Belonged to the United Methodist church since 1961 teaching Sunday school and serving in various church leadership positions. Spent many years as a coach, manager and player for softball and basketball programs ending with St. Mary’s School in Owatonna. Enjoyed playing cards, bowling and fantasy football.

Survived by Children: Jeffrey (Carol) Gaunitz of Lansing, Iowa, Debbie (William) Beck of Rosemount, Minn., Julie (Jeff) Sabacky of Crystal, Minn., Gregory (Jesalyn) Gaunitz of Prior Lake, Minn. Grandchildren: Matthew (Teresa) Gaunitz, Alisha Gaunitz, Nicole Gaunitz ‘17, Jennifer Sabacky, Jessica Sabacky, Amy Beck, and Josephine Gaunitz and sister Ruth Feuerhelm. Preceded in death by parents, brother Richard (Dick), and sister Lavonne (Bonnie).

A memorial service was held April 22, 2022, at Old East Paint Creek Lutheran Church, 1799 Elon Drive, Waterville, IA. Following the service, interment of ashes for both Emmett and Donna Gaunitz (who passed away in Nov. 2021) was held at Oak Hill Cemetery, Lansing, Iowa.
