In response to this mission mission and in recognition of our globalized world, this scholarship assists women who major in international studies with study abroad expenses.

It draws from an endowment created in honor of Olga Fischer-Proehl, a German businesswoman of great strength and perseverance. When her husband died, Olga continued running the family foundry on her own. She did so successfully for the next three decades. Established by her daughter, Jutta Fischer Anderson, the scholarship serves as a lasting remembrance of her mother's life.

2016-2017 Recipient

Rozlyn Paradis received the scholarship as a junior. In the spring of 2017, she spent 15 weeks in Kigali, Rwanda. There, she studied Post-Genocide Reconstruction and Peace-Building with the School of International Training. She also studied the Genocide Against the Tutsis, post-conflict reconstruction, and the local language of Kinyarwanda. During the last month, Rozlyn did field research where she explored ethnicity and the Ndi umunyarwanda programme (I am Rwandan) with survivors, perpetrators, rescuers, refugees, and political figures. She plans to continue analyzing the interviews she conducted to write her senior paper. Her biggest take away is that people need to fight against ignorance. People must challenge their own ignorance to better themselves and the world around them.

Rozlyn is from Bloomington, Minnesota. She is majoring in international studies with a regional focus in Sub-Saharan Africa. She also has minors in management and French. On campus, she is on Freya, the women's Ultimate Frisbee Team, and Orchesis, a co-curricular dance team.
