Over the past four days, we have: experienced 5.5 hours of tours, 12+ hours of lectures, 2 NGOs, 1 orphanage, and countless memories.
This entry is an overview of our first couple of days living with our respective host families. Parents: ¡Todo bien!
Today was our first day in the Dominican Republic! We took a tour through the Colonial sector of Santo Domingo, saw some of the major sites of the city, and ended the day meeting our host families that we would be staying with for the next ten days.
Getting to our destination was a bit of an adventure!
Amidst the destruction left behind from the earthquake nearly six years ago, the Lutheran World Federation "Model Village" gives a glimpse of a hopeful future for Haiti. As students, we were able to look at both the pros and cons of the village, as well as interact with the people who live there. One of the highlights of the day was and international soccer match between Luther students and Haitian children.
Twenty-two juniors and seniors depart for Haiti and the Dominican Republic.
