Greek Gods Galore!

Hi everyone! Take a quick peek below to hear from Emma Radtke ('17), Brynne Stellner ('17), Yuen Ching Lee ('18), and Cydney Rose ('19) as they share their experiences at the Sanctuary of Artemis and the Temple of Poseidon.

Hello friends and family! Thanks for taking a peek at our class blog. For the last few days, we have been busy studying and exploring the mythological wonders Athens has to offer. Fortunately, the gods graced us with wonderful weather, and we feel rejuvenated by the sunshine and fresh air!

We traveled east of Athens to visit the Sanctuary of Artemis in Brauron, Greece. The sanctuary is nestled in a small glade and away from the bustle of busy Athens.  The brisk morning air and warm sunshine made for a perfect visit to Artemis' hangout!  At the sanctuary, the class performed a skit illustrating the classical rites of passage and ceremonial traditions that young girls would have performed at this site during the classical period. While the experience was educational, we did share several laughs regarding our enthusiasm and acting skills!

We were also fortunate enough to visit the Temple of Poseidon at Cape Sounion. After a breathtaking ride overlooking the Mediterranean Sea, we're fairly certain that everyone wants to buy a summer home here! We learned about the powerful and temperamental Greek god, Poseidon, and spent the afternoon taking in the rich beauty of the countryside. We ended the day watching the sunset together next to the temple. It was a memorable experience that we will not forget anytime soon.

Thanks for checking in!

Until next time,
