Greetings from Athens! Our time in Greece is coming to a close and although we're sad that we will be leaving in the morning, we are so happy to have been given the opportunity to learn about the mythological, archaeological, historical, and cultural significance surrounding Ancient Greece! Please take a few minutes to read our final update from Nathan Burwell ('18), Benjamin Bernatz ('17), Brett Blattner ('17), and Evan Berg ('17).
Hello friends and family! It's hard to believe that tonight is our final night in Greece. Although we're not looking forward to a long trip home, we could not have asked for a more wonderful adventure in Greece this past month.
Our final days have been busy, and we've managed to explore several ancient sites. We traveled to Isthmia, a beautiful city located on the Aegean Sea and the Gulf of Corinth. Despite the rain and chilly weather, we enjoyed exploring the Sanctuary of Asclepius at Epidauros. We visited the site's theater, an impressive and well-preserved space where we were graced by Colin Eral and Max Tiedemann's beautiful Nordic voices. Try as we might, we could not get Professor Davis to perform a song. We also learned about Asclepius, the god of healing, and learned about ancient medical practices. Thankfully, these practices are much different than ours today!
On our drive back to Athens, we tourney Kenchreai, the archaeological site that Professor Davis excavates with college students--including students from our own Luther College! We also stopped to explore ancient Corinth where we had interesting conversations about Pagan and Christian relations. We also discussed Pegasus and Bellerophon.
On our final night, we had a lovely farewell dinner, and enjoyed sharing one last evening of laughs together! We are sad that our time in Greece is through, but we are eager to see all of our friends and family. We cannot wait to share our unforgettable experiences with you!
