Our Adventures in Lima!

At the moment, we just arrived at our hostel near Machu Picchu. We enjoyed every minute of our time in Lima! Our two days were filled with sightseeing, walking around, and relaxing. We’ll share with you some our favorite things from the trip so far!

Parque de Amor

One of the first things we did when we arrived in Lima was go to the “Parque de amor” (Park of Love). The park was on top of a hill overlooking the ocean, it was beautiful! Throughout the park, there were famous quotes about love written on the walls and benches. Although we were all sleep deprived, it was one of our favorite places.

Walking Tour

Yesterday we took a tour around Lima to learn more about the city. We visited many churches including San Agustin, San Pedro, Nuestra Senora de la merced, and San Francisco. Each church had very elegant and intricate designs. My favorite part of the tour was the “Casa de La Literatura Peruana” (House of Peruvian Literature). The building was an old train station that was converted into a library. The ceilings were made of beautiful stain glass and each staircase hand a poem on the steps.

Free Time

In addition to the tours and walking, we have been enjoying our free time to explore the city. Yesterday, we had the afternoon free to explore in groups. We did many different things: shopping, getting ice cream, running, and walking around. Before dinner, we all went to the beach. The beach was packed with surfers and swimmers, enjoying their last days of break.

The Delicious Food

The food here has been an adventure. It took a little while to learn what each dish was, but we are getting the hang of it. We have been enjoying trying different foods and learning about typical Peruvian dishes. The food here usually consists of rice, potatoes, and some kind of meat. Each meal here is very filling and overall delicious! Some of our favorite dishes are ahí de gallina (chicken and rice with a creamy sauce) and lomo saltado (beef with rice and vegetables).

In the following days, we will be visiting Machu Picchu and Cusco. Everyone is super excited for both. We will make sure to make another post soon to share this experience with you!

Talk to you soon,

Will and Kjerstin
