A Step in the Right Direction

As we began to embark on what would be a breathtaking journey through this city, I knew that this would be a memorable day of our J-term trip. On this overcast day, I decided to take this opportunity to showcase the beauty, sustainability, and mind-blowing views of Oslo. This day was perfect! As a group, we had the opportunity to go on a walking tour of Oslo, the European Green Capital of 2019. We learned about how Oslo is taking the initiative to move as a city in the right direction by becoming more environmentally sustainable. Read more about the European Green Capital award here.

As I sit in the lobby of Anker Hotel Oslo, drinking a cup of coffee while reflecting on my experiences from today, it is quite clear to me how this city with amazing architecture, that utilizes the rivers and water for power, eliminates parking spots to reduce the use of emissions, encourages the use of scooters, bikes, and offers public transportation and community gardens help to create a green and clean city can benefit the common good and the people of the city of Oslo.

Throughout this tour, the most fascinating and intriguing parts to me were the famous Oslo Opera House, Oslo’s first community garden: Losæter and the imagery and modernization of the Barcode Project which is a section of the Bjørvika portion of the Fjord City. This trip will continue to be busy, but life-changing at the same time.

Take a moment and appreciate everything that life has to offer, sometimes you’re only given one chance.
