Are We There Yet??

4,000 miles, 26 hours, and six espresso shots later, we have arrived safely in Spain. There were no major hiccups in our itinerary and nothing other than lots of sleep and our sanity was lost. This full day of travel was reminiscent of childhood road trips, with all of the same anticipation and antsy-ness that comes with it. Though this day was stocked full with challenges for each member of our group, there were little pockets of sunshine within the 24 hour day.

After the five hour shuttle ride from Luther College to Chicago, we had about 7 hours to kill in the O’Hare airport. The waiting for hours on end in an airport is not the first thing that comes to mind when I think of “fun,” this group of students made the best of it. Brooke Stanga had brought cards and offered to play a card game with everyone. So, around six of us joined in and played Egyptian rat tail  (a high stress game) and it was a great time to talk and get to know each other better, as we will be spending so much time together.

Following the first 6 hour flight from Chicago to London, we had a two hour wait until the second flight, so we were able to see a glimpse of what London had to offer through its airport. From cool accents, to fancy bathrooms, to experiencing our first international Starbucks, our little look at London was short but filled with fun.

The next flight took us to our final destination: Spain.

After the longest day of travel most of us have ever experienced, I think I speak for the whole group when I say that nothing sounds better than a warm shower and a comfortable bed. Good night for now.
