Bike Share

  • Patrons must sign a waiver to participate in the Bike Share program. Blank waivers are in a notebook in the drawer with the bike keys. Once they have signed, they can check out a bike. The Circulation Supervisor will later update the patron's account so that, in the future, if you see the words "Bike Share" in the Staff Notes field of the patron's account, you can simply check a bike out to them without asking them to sign another waiver.
  • Dependents, community patrons, and visitors cannot check out bikes. However, faculty/staff and students with a signed waiver may check out bikes under their own accounts and allow their dependents and/or guests to ride; the person checking out the bike(s) assumes full responsibility for the bike(s) and liability for the rider's safe return. However, riders should still sign an individual waiver (note on the waiver form who actually checked the bike out so the Circulation Supervisor is not confused about why they cannot find an account online for the person signing the waiver).
  • Bikes are a 4-hour checkout or due back before we close (which may be less than 4 hours). So, on Fridays and Saturdays, that means bikes are due back by 9 p.m.
  • No renewals are allowed. Refer patrons to the Circulation Supervisor if they have a complaint about this or would like to arrange an extended checkout for an appropriate purpose.
  • $1/hour fine accrues on late bike returns. If someone pays a fine, place the money in the cash drawer and fill out a paid fine note (found in the drawer) and place it on the Circulation Supervisor’s desk so he can cancel the fine out on their account.
  • A bike helmet is required with each bike checkout. If a patron does not have a helmet of their own, they must accept one of ours. Lightly spray each helmet upon checkin with disinfectant prior to reshelving.
  • Bikes #1-10 are blue, three-speed bikes; Bikes #11-14 are yellow, 7-speed bikes; Bike #15 is a blue, single-speed bike; Bike #16 is a blue, 8-speed bike; .
  • If a bike is reported to be in need of repair, write a note detailing exactly what seems to be the problem, tape it to the key, and place both on the Circulation Supervisor’s desk.
  • If someone returns a bike key and reports that the bike is missing from the rack or is damaged, place the key with a note on the Circulation Supervisor's desk.
  • A tire pump is located at the fixit bike station next to the Bike Share racks. It is available for any bike, Bike Share or otherwise. There is also a tire pump with a barcode on it in the coat closet behind the circulation desk. If someone wishes to use it on their own bike, they must bring their bike to the front of the library before checking out the pump. The pump should not be taken away from the building.
