Reserves

The library offers assistance in providing access to readings and other materials (sound recordings, videos, etc.) that support the instructional requirements for specific courses. This is done through the KATIE learning management system and physical reserves.

KATIE:

KATIE is the preferred method for handling eReserves.

Rationale:

  • All regular course sections automatically have a KATIE course site created for them allowing instructors to link course resource documents(such as scanned articles or pages from a book), full-text documents from the library’s article databases, or any other material available on the network or the Web.
  • Statistics indicate students regularly use KATIE to access course resources.
  • KATIE affords the added benefit of limiting access to the resource material to students with a legitimate academic purpose (only those enrolled in the course), a factor in complying with the library’s Copyright Fair Use guidelines.

If an instructor is uncomfortable with any of the steps involved in linking resources to KATIE, library staff is available to assist with the conversion of pages/copies to usable digital format (usually, Adobe pdf) so instructors or their assistants can post them to their KATIE course site.

Physical reserves:

Preus Library also operates a physical reserve system behind the circulation desk. Typical items include books, videos, CDs, and photocopies. Unless otherwise requested, items on reserve circulate under a 2-hour-loan, in-library-use-only policy.

Instructors should allow 24 hours for processing.
