Preus Library has access to approximately 50 databases and indexes that identify and provide access to articles. Most of these are searchable through the Internet.

Many of the databases and indexes we provide are subject-specific, and you may find plenty of use for them as you continue on in your studies. The broad-based databases listed below are good starting points for scholarly article searches for many topics. Click on the links to learn the features of each database.

Gale Academic OneFile

Search the database

Covering most subject areas, Academic OneFile is our recommended starting point for your search process. Full-text access is provided for many of the articles not held by Preus Library.

JSTOR

Search the database

A good source for articles on history and culture, humanities, social sciences, and science, JSTOR provides full-text page images of over 600 journals. JSTOR is unique in that it indexes and provides the entire run of a journal, minus the last two to five years. For example, coverage of the Journal of American Folklore begins in 1888 and runs through 2001.

Project MUSE

Search the database

Project MUSE is a full-text collection of the most recent one to five years of over 300 scholarly journals. Main subject areas include the arts, humanities, history, literature, social sciences, and science.

America: History & Life / Historical Abstracts

Search the database

Both of these history-based databases provide the same interface, however America: History & Life deals solely with United States and Canadian history from prehistory to the present, while Historical Abstracts covers the rest of the world from 1450 to the present. Some of the citations listed here are linked to the full-text article appearing in JSTOR.
