Welcome to the Luther College Low Brass Studio Website!

Home of MKS Cutaway Mouthpieces (diagnostic tools for low brass) available at Hickey's Music Center in Ithaca, NY and at Schmitt Music in the Minneapolis, MN area.

The Luther College Faculty Brass Quintet (Norse Brass Quintet) performed in the Rochester, MN area high schools on 11/1/19 and in the LaCrosse, WI area on 11/8/19.

Studio News:

Jackson Churchill '20, is pursing a Master's Degree in Jazz Studies (trombone) at the University of North Texas.  He is currently playing in the 1 o'clock Lab Band and as part of his teaching assistantship, is directing the 7 o'clock Lab Band. 

The Luther College Trombone Choir premiered Dr. Smith's new composition, Siege, for trombone choir and percussion on the Brass Ensembles Concert  11/6/19, 7:30 in the CFL. 

Tenor trombonist Jackson Churchill '20, is the winner of the Luther College Concerto Competition.  He performed the Grøndahl Concerto with the Luther College Symphony Orchestra on 11-17-19 in the CFL. 

Mason Donnohue '19 is attending Penn State and working towards a performer's certificate in bass trombone performance.

Elena Zarecky '17 has accepted a position as a teaching assistant at the University of Colorado-Boulder where she is completing a master of music in tuba performance.

Ethan Scholl '13 won the bass trombone position with the United States Army Ceremonial Band “Pershing’s Own”.

Benjamin Yates '08, has accepted a position as the Assistant Professor of Music (Low Brass) at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.
