ALAN CARPENTER, 74, died at his home in DeLand, Fla., Jan. 11, 2014. He was born in Newton, Iowa, on May 5, 1939. He graduated from Newton High School in 1957 and Luther College in 1962. He began working for Travelers Insurance Company as a claims adjuster and worked his way up to management positions. His work took him to several states, and after 42 years with the company, he retired and continued to live in Florida. He is survived by his wife, Rebecca. He was a member of Heritage Club at Luther College and a Life Member of President’s Council. The Alan and Rebecca Carpenter Scholarship was established at Luther in 2005.
