Drew DeVine of Englewood, Fla., is a freelance artist traversing all 50 states on his “Painting My Way across the USA” road trip to bring art, kindness, and hope to people shaken by the pandemic. He’s making the journey in a Roadtrek 190 camper van, creating live art during his stops. Through painting, Drew encourages bridge-building discussions and meaningful connections during this fraught time. “People are scared right now,” he says. “The dynamics of being a human just changed. I’m trying to get out and let people know they can still play and still have fun.”

Laura (Monson) and Tony Vanden Heuvel ’06 live in Edina, Minn. Laura is director of innovation at Optum Health. Tony is a surgical sales executive at Karl Storz Endoscopy. He received the Surgical Executive Rookie of the Year honor for 2019.

Elise (Hoehn) and Clayton Ward live in Le Claire, Iowa. Elise is a visual arts teacher with the North Scott Community School District. Clayton is executive director of the Fountains Senior Living Community with Dial Management.

Flannery (Cerbin) and Adam Bohach ’06 live in Cresco, Iowa. Flannery is the worksite wellness coordinator at Northeast Iowa Community College. Adam teaches biology at Decorah High School. The pair are also beginning market gardeners at their 27-acre farm, Tailwind Acres, and continue to train and run competitively. Flannery turned in a personal best 17:08 for the 5K last spring. Adam ran a marathon last year in 2:18:39, missing the Olympic Trials by only 79 seconds.

Laura (McCarty) and Brett Cooper live in Sioux Falls, S.D. Laura is an orchestra teacher in the Sioux Falls School District. Brett earned an MM degree in piano performance from the University of South Dakota. He works in development at the Washington Pavilion of Arts and Science. The two founded the White Spruce Chamber Players, a South Dakota–based ensemble committed to providing the region with approachable high-quality chamber music.
