About the Magazine

The Luther magazine is published three times yearly—September, January, and May—in print and online. Our readership includes Luther College alumni, faculty, staff, undergraduates and their parents, and friends of the college.

Profiles, features, and news stories reflect the accomplishments of Luther alumni, faculty, and students, which in turn reflect Luther’s mission to help students connect faith with learning, freedom with responsibility, and life’s work with service.

We welcome alumni updates and story ideas from all parts of the Luther community. Send story ideas to the editor and click here to update your address and class note information.

Magazine Staff

Kate Frentzel

Chief Editor

Kate teams with editor Ellen Modersohn to lead magazine content planning. She writes most of the major stories and edits stories that others have written. Kate also helps create the magazine's online site. If you have a question about the magazine or a story idea, feel free to email or call Kate.

Michael Bartels

Creative Director

Michael is responsible for how the Luther Alumni Magazine looks. He designs the whole magazine and helps to plan its content, as well. In addition, he is the lead designer in Luther’s Publications and Design office, creating publications and artwork as small as postcards and as large as the backdrop for the annual Christmas at Luther concert.

Aaron Lurth

Assistant Professor of Art

Aaron is part of the team that plans magazine content. He takes many of the photographs himself and he supervises students in Luther’s Photo Bureau, who also take many of the magazine's photographs.
