2022 Dorian Band Festival Schedule

Sunday, February 27

12:30-2:00  Registration (Upstairs Lobby, Center for Faith and Life) Upstairs Lobby.

Only directors or parent chaperones go through the registration line. Festival fees must be turned in at this time. Meal tickets for the Cafeteria may be pre-purchased at this time in the main floor lobby of the CFL.

2:00  All participants assemble in the Main Hall of the Center of Faith and Life for information and announcements.

2:30-5:00  The first Dorian Massed Band Rehearsals will be held under the direction of Dr. Shelley Hanson from Macalaster College and Dr. Shawn Vondran from Northwestern University. The Noble Band, with Shelley Hanson, is in the Center for Faith and Life. The Sperati Band, with Shawn Vondran, is in the North Gym of the Regents Center. Students must have their own music and stand.

2:30-3:30  Dorian Symphonic Band chair placement auditions (sites in Jenson-Noble Hall of Music).

2:45-3:30  Directors meet with Dr. Cory Near. This is a time to meet new directors and to share ideas. (Choir Room, Jenson-Noble Hall of Music)

3:30-5:00  The first Dorian Symphonic Band Rehearsal will be held under the direction of Dr. Cory Near. (Sperati Room, Jenson-Noble Hall of Music)

3:30-5:30  Soloists perform at designated centers in Jenson-Noble. Please be there a few minutes ahead of your lesson time.

5:00  Announcement of Concert Soloists at each rehearsal location. Please remain in your rehearsal until this announcement is made.  

5:00-6:30  Dinner: Student Union Cafeteria ($10.00) and Marty's Café (lower level of Union) are available on campus.

6:30  Concert Soloists rehearsal with accompanist (Main Hall, CFL)

7:00-9:00  Concert featuring the Luther College Concert Band, Luther College Jazz Orchestra, Norse Brass, and outstanding Dorian soloists (Center for Faith and Life, free admission)

Following the concert, students staying on campus meet their Luther hosts in the CFL Lobby to move into their dorm rooms.

11:00  Students must be in their on-campus housing sites and remain there overnight. Possession or use of alcoholic beverages, illegal or controlled substances of any kind will result in immediate dismissal from the festival and removal from the Luther College campus.

Monday, February 28

7:00-8:15  Breakfast in the Student Union Cafeteria ($8.00) 

8:00-11:00  Soloists perform at designated centers in Jenson-Noble. Please be there a few minutes ahead of your lesson time.

8:30-10:15  Dorian Symphonic Band Rehearsal (Sperati Room, Jenson-Noble Hall of Music)

8:30-10:15  Dorian Massed Band Rehearsal: Sperati Band in the Center for Faith and Life. Noble Band in the North Gym of the Regents Center.

9:00-10:00  Directors' Session: Topic and Presenter TBD (Recital Hall, Center for Faith and Life)

10:30-10:50  Daily Chapel at Luther College. All are welcome to attend. Attendance is not required. (Recital Hall, Center for Faith and Life).

11:00-12:00  Dorian Symphonic Band Sectionals with Luther College faculty (Sites TBA)

11:00-12:30  Dorian Massed Band Rehearsals: Sperati Band in the Center For Faith and Life and the Noble Band in the North Gym of the Regents Center. 

12:00-12:30  Dorian Symphonic Band Rehearsal (Sperati Room, Jenson-Noble Hall of Music)

12:30  Lunch: Student Union Cafeteria ($10.00) or Marty's Café (lower level of Union) are available on campus.

1:30-2:30  Soloists perform at designated centers in Jenson-Noble. Please be there a few minutes ahead of your lesson time.

1:30-2:30  Dorian Sperati Band Rehearsal (North Gym of the Regents Center)

1:30-3:00  Final Rehearsal of the Dorian Noble Band (Center for Faith and Life)

1:30-3:15  Dorian Symphonic Band Rehearsal (Sperati Room, Jenson-Noble Hall of Music)

1:30-2:30  Directors’ Reading Band. The reading band is organized by Brad Thew from Viroqua, WI. Music packets have been generously provided by Alfred and Belwin Music Publishing Company. Thanks to all involved! (Orchestra Room, Jenson-Noble Hall of Music)

3:00-3:45  Final rehearsal of the Dorian Sperati Band (Center for Faith and Life)

3:50-4:30  Final Rehearsal of the Dorian Symphonic Band. All students will be responsible for carrying their own music and stand. (Center for Faith and Life)

5:00  Dorian Band Festival Grand Concert (Center for Faith and Life). Free admission.
Concert apparel: All black OR black bottoms with a white top.
