2022 Dorian Orchestra Festival Schedule

Please note this schedule is subject to change.

Sunday, February 6

11:30-12:30  Registration for Dorian Orchestra Festival (lobby, Jenson-Noble Hall of Music). Check in, turn in release forms for each of your students, and pay any fees due. Collect housing assignments at the housing table.

12:30-1:00  Seating of the Orchestras: Chamber Orchestra in the Orchestra Room, Jenson-Noble Hall of Music. Festival String Orchestra in the Main Hall, Center for Faith and Life (CFL).

1:00-3:15  First Rehearsals: Chamber Orchestra with Dr. Daniel Baldwin in the Orchestra Room, Jenson-Noble Hall of Music. Festival String Orchestra with Dr. Diego Piedra in the Main Hall, Center for Faith and Life (CFL). Breaks will be given at conductors' discretion.

1:00-2:30  Solo Lessons with members of the Luther Music Faculty in Jenson-Noble Hall of Music. Please be outside your scheduled studio five minutes early and bring music for your teacher. (Students scheduled for lessons should leave and rejoin rehearsals quietly.)

2:30-3:15  Director Refreshments and Conversation with the Luther College string faculty. Visiting directors are encouraged to meet the Luther College string faculty and enjoy some afternoon treats and refreshments. (Noble Recital Hall Lobby, Jenson-Noble Hall of Music)

3:30-5:00  String Seminars: Sessions led by Luther string faculty members and will include masterclass performances and technique sessions. The sessions are required for Dorian students. Teachers are very welcome and encouraged to attend.

5:00-7:00  Dinner: Meals are available in the Cafeteria ($10.00) or Marty’s Café. Off-campus venues are also available.

5:15  Concert soloist(s) rehearsal with accompanist (Main Hall, CFL)

7:00  Concert: Luther College Symphony Orchestra and Luther College string faculty (Main Hall, CFL)

Following the concert, directors are encouraged to attend a meet and greet with Dr. Daniel Baldwin, conductor, and Luther College string faculty performers. (Qualley Lounge, CFL)

Following the concert, students staying on campus meet their Luther hosts in the CFL Lobby to move into their residence hall rooms.

11:00  Students must be in their on-campus housing sites and remain there overnight. Possession or use of alcoholic beverages, illegal or controlled substances of any kind will not be tolerated and will result in immediate dismissal from the festival and removal from the Luther College campus. 

Monday, February 7

7:30-8:15  Breakfast: Student Cafeteria ($8.00)

9:00-10:30  Rehearsals: Festival String Orchestra will rehearse in the Main Hall of the Center for Faith and Life. Chamber Orchestra will continue in the Orchestra Room in Jenson-Noble Hall of Music.

8:30-10:30  Solo Lessons with members of the Luther Music Faculty in Jenson-Noble Hall of Music. Please be outside your scheduled studio five minutes early and bring music for your teacher.

10:30-11:00  Break

11:00-12:15  Rehearsal: Festival String Orchestra will rehearse in the Main Hall of the Center for Faith and Life.

11:00-12:15  Sectionals: Chamber Orchestra will hold sectionals in the Jenson-Noble Hall of Music.

4:30-5:00  Final Rehearsal: Chamber Orchestra (Main Hall, Center for Faith and Life)

5:30  Festival Grand Concert: Main Hall, Center for Faith and Life. Free Admission. Concert Apparel: All black OR black bottoms with a white top.
