All language majors and minors and others who plan to use Norwegian skills are encouraged to study abroad. For most students, overseas study occurs during the junior year.

Luther provides a variety of programs in Norway, based on differences in abilities, preparation, and interests of the student. The Center for Global Learning can help you to find a program that fits your needs.

One such program offered is the Telemark College Exchange Program. The Telemark program offers students the opportunity to study at a Norwegian college in English and to study Norwegian language at various levels. Course topics include Telemark culture, environmental philosophy, emigration from Telemark, images of the United States in Norway, Norwegian language, cross-cultural communications, and environmental issues in Norway.

Norway—Telemark College Exchange Program (based in Bø)

• Time frame: August to December; January to May
• Program sponsors: Telemark College and Luther College
• Enrollment: 2
• Eligibility: Second-semester sophomores, juniors, seniors; 3.0 minimum GPA
• Program fee: Luther comprehensive fee plus airfare (approximately $900). Fee covers tuition, room, student fees, and program travel.

Financial Aid

Students should consult the Financial Aid Office for information on aid eligibility. Students who receive Pell Grants as a portion of their financial aid package are also eligible to apply for a Gilman Scholarship (competitive). Students may also apply for a Wigeland Scholarship for Study in Scandinavia through Luther College. Please note: application for the Wigeland must be made in the fall semester of the year before study on the program.
