Internships
Luther’s academic program stresses education beyond the classroom walls and encourages you to engage in real-world learning in order to test your career goals and gain valuable professional experience. Internships are a crucial component of this experiential learning, and Luther helps match religion majors with choice internships that ask you to apply what you are learning in the context of a professional workplace.
Internship Opportunities
In addition to a variety of congregational settings, recent Luther religion majors have interned in such places as the International Labor Rights Forum (Washington, D.C.), the Nobel Peace Prize Forum (Minneapolis, MN), the Mayo Clinic Transplant Center (Rochester, MN), the Lutheran Coalition for Public Policy (St. Paul, MN), and Lutheran Outdoors in South Dakota (Sioux Falls, SD).

Emily Holm

Where: Kids4Peace
Major: Religion
During the summer of 2015, Emily worked in Seattle, WA with Kids4Peace. The camp gathers Christian, Jewish, and Muslim students from Jerusalem and the United States for two weeks of dialogue and interfaith learning, believing that, “together, peace is possible”. As an intern, Emily spent most of her time facilitating conversations between campers and helping with interfaith sessions. She says the most rewarding part of her job was working with the kids. She especially enjoyed seeing the relationships between the Israeli, Palestinian, and American campers grow over time. This unique internship allowed Emily to mature as a religion major and use her skills from Luther to make a tangible difference in the world.
Brady Ross

Where: Wayzata Community Church, Wayzata, MN
Major: Religion
Brady spent the month of January working with the high school ministry team at Wayzata Community Church. As an intern, he preached, led songs, and facilitated dialogue with high school students. He also experienced some of the behind-the-scenes aspects of ministry, such as staff meetings and tech work. Before the internship, Brady wondered when or how he would be able to bring his religion coursework into a career. His time at Wayzata Community Church proved to him that the knowledge and critical thinking skills he has gained at Luther can be very useful in a ministry setting, especially when working with youth. Overall, he found the internship to be inspiring and hopes to pursue this type of work after graduation.
