Careers

Our students have unique opportunities to gain on-the-job training within the theatre program.

Performance

Students have a variety of options to gain performance experience. Every year the theatre program produces at least three main stage productions. SPIN Theatre Company and Top Banana Improv Troupe are student-led groups that offer opportunities as well.

"The Luther Theatre Department offers a truly immersive environment. From the main stage productions, to the student lead productions, to the performance opportunities offered through acting classes, it is easy to be engaged in the art form year round. And with knowledgeable faculty and talented peers, it’s not hard to feel yourself growing as an actor."

Design & Production

Our program offers many opportunities to learn about design and technical production. Students can work in the costume shop and/or scene shop to learn construction skills. In addition, students participate as run crew, stage managers assistant directors, and designers in our mainstage productions.

"The department is amazing at letting students step up to leaders and treating us as equals. I've been lucky enough to stage manage A Midsummer Night's Dream and Chicago under Dr. Bobby and I've learned so many skills I hope to use in my future. I also work in the scene shop so being able to see productions go from a drawing on paper to an actual set is so amazing, my favorite set I've helped work on is Appropriate cause we built a literal house."

Administration

Students can learn administrations skills in our program. We have opportunities to work in faculty offices, production management, or web content and social media. Students are also able to work with Faculty members as research assistants.

"Through my work with Web Content and the VPA, I get to experience what marketing and publicity might look like in a real theatre/dance company. I get to make decisions and be in conversations with the faculty about what is on the websites, and how we advertise to incoming students as well as potential audience members. Not only do I get treated as an important member of the team, but I'm getting valuable experiences for later in life"
