TG 150 requests community perspectives
Luther's Task Group 150 has prepared a Planning and Positioning document on the TG 150 KATIE website.
This is a framework for the campus to consider strategic initiatives and adjustments to the programs that serve Luther's mission. TG 150 is seeking comment on this framework from the Luther community, and you
are invited to participate in an online discussion.

Vagts presents Paideia lecture March 29
Rachel Vagts will present the 2010-11 Paideia Texts and Issues Lecture Tuesday, March 29 at 7 p.m. in the CFL Recital Hall. The lecture, titled "The Transforming Journey: A Story of Service at Luther and Beyond," will explore the history of Luther and its strong commitment of service to the greater community. A reception will follow the lecture in Qualley Lounge.
Philosophy Colloquium March 30
Jon Jensen and Storm Bailey will present a philosophy colloquium titled "Sustainability in the Classroom: Saving the World or Selling our Souls?" Wednesday, March 30 at 4 p.m. in Valders 362.
'Luther Sketches' March 30-31
Faculty, staff and students are invited to a 50-minute performance of "Luther Sketches: A Lighthearted Romp Through Luther's Sensational Saga." Seven students, under the direction of Bob Larson, are performing the work at alumni events in the Midwest. See it on campus Wednesday, March 30 at 7 p.m. in the CFL Recital Hall or Thursday, March 31, at 9:40 a.m. in the CFL Main Hall. The Thursday morning performance will be counted as work time for staff that would like to attend.
Luther Religion Forum lecture March 31
Venerable Professor Yifa, a Taiwanese Buddhist nun, scholar and writer, will present a Luther College Religion Forum lecture Thursday, March 31 at 7 p.m. in the CFL Recital Hall. Her lecture, titled "Women in Buddhism," is open to the public with no charge for admission.
FAS: Heather Armstrong
Heather Armstrong will perform a faculty artist series recital Thursday, March 31 at 7 p.m. in the Noble Recital Hall. The recital is open to the public with no charge for admission. She will be joined by guest pianist Korey Barrett. The program will feature works for oboe and piano, including sonatas by Paul Hindemith and Edmund Rubbra and "Three Piece Suite" by Madeleine Dring.
Scherubel '63 art on display April 1
The paintings of Richard Scherubel '63 will be on display April 1-May 22 in the upper level of the CFL. Scherubel's work is primarily made up of nonrepresentational visual phenomena, often developed from small sketches with subsequent color and shape adjustments. The paintings suggest a variety of moods, attitudes and ideas in an evolving attempt to bring opposites together. Samples of Scherubel's work can be viewed on his website, http://www.scherubel.com.

To Judy Hageman and family on the March 16 death of her father Norbert Hovey, 86, of Decorah.
J. R. Christianson lectured March 16 in the famous Auditorium A of the Niels Bohr Institute in Copenhagen on "Fifty Years of Research on Tycho Brahe." He gave a similar lecture at the Vangebo Center north of Copenhagen on March 15.
Athletic Training students, Alicia Woodhouse '11 and Adam Rave '12 were chosen to do an oral presentation titled "On Field Treatment and Post Surgical Rehabilitation of C3/C4 Fracture of a Collegiate Football Athlete" at the Mid America Athletic Trainers Association (NATA District V) annual meeting and symposium on Saturday, March 19 in Omaha.
Athletic training student Alison Vandegrift '12 was selected to receive the 2011 Mid-America Athletic Trainers Association (NATA District V) Memorial Undergraduate Scholarship at the NATA annual meeting on Thursday, March 17 in Omaha.

On Feb. 12 Eric Kutz performed the cello solo part for the 70-minute world premiere of "AMASS" by Minneapolis-based composer Jocelyn Hagen. The performance, which was funded by a McKnight grant, took place at First Lutheran Church in Columbia Heights, Minn. "AMASS" was scored for cello solo, cello quartet, three percussionists, three vocal soloists, and choir (The Singers—Minnesota Choral Artists). The performance was recorded for future release.
On Feb. 23 Miko Kominami performed a recital of clarinet and piano music at the University of Northern Iowa. She collaborated with clarinetist Suzanne Tirk, faculty member at Wichita State University in Kansas. The performance included works by Penderecki, Schumann, Babin and others.
On Sunday, March 27 at 11a.m., Kominami and Kutz will perform in a live radio broadcast and give an interview on WFMT 98.7FM, Chicago's classical radio station. The performance will be at the Mayne Stage in Chicago, and it will be streamed on the web at http://www.wfmt.com/main.taf?p=4,5,8. They will perform works by Henry Cowell, Samuel Barber, Astor Piazzolla and Jocelyn Hagen.
Spencer Martin performed as violist at the Bonneville Chamber Music Festival in Ogden, Utah, March 4 and 7. In addition to the live performances at Weber State University, the Bonneville Chamber Ensemble will be featured in an upcoming 'live' radio brodcast on KBYU's "Highway 89" program playing the Schumann Piano Quintet.
Spring service trips
Pastor Mike and Pastor David along with about 80 students, faculty and staff will dedicate their Spring Break to serving, learning and reflection, as they participate in College Ministries' sponsored spring break service/mission trips. Luther's Habitat for Humanity chapter is sending a busload to Ocean Springs, Miss., to join HFH-MS Gulf Coast in continued rebuilding from Hurricane Katrina. Mission Guatemala will partner with Open Windows Foundation and Mission Panama will work Operation Safe Drinking Water.
Benefit brunch for Joni Meyer family
A benefit brunch for the Joni and Herman Meyer family will be Sunday, April 10, 8 a.m.-12:30 p.m., in St. Benedict Parish Hall, Decorah. Serving scrambled eggs with toppings, pancakes, sausage and beverages. Tickets are $6 per person; children five and under, no charge. Advance tickets available at the Luther Alumni Office or Viking State Bank. Tickets available at the door. The event will also feature a bake sale and silent auction. Joni, a staff member in the Alumni Office, was seriously injured in an automobile accident Jan. 28.
Student Research Symposium
Call for applications for the second annual full-day Luther College Student Research Symposium, to be held May 6. All Luther students are encouraged to apply to present research and creative work through oral presentation, poster presentation, or creative performance or exhibition. Spring Fling community service day
Student volunteers from Luther's Student Congregation will help Decorah residents with spring chores on Saturday, April 9 when Luther holds its annual Spring Fling community service day.
Decorah residents may sign up by contacting Luther College Ministries, 387-1271 or <ministry> before Monday, April 4. Please provide a brief explanation of the household or yard tasks to be completed in a 1.5 hour time-frame.
