COLLEGE OPERATIONS

Sesquicentennial salary supplement

As announced at the Sesquicentennial Picnic for employees and families, July paychecks will include a one-time $750 salary supplement for employees who have a .75 to 1.0 FTE appointment. This supplement will be pro-rated for employees at a .50 to .74 appointment.

The one-time supplement is made possible by utilizing 2010-11 budget surplus funds. Unspent contingency funds and greater than projected tuition revenue provided a portion of the surplus.  This supplement is not added to the employee base salary.

It was also announced at the picnic that staff will be given an extra day of vacation (Dec. 28) so that they can have an entire week off at Christmas.

Summer reading 2011

The summer reading for this fall's incoming class is "Strength in What Remains: a journey of remembrance and forgiveness" by Tracy Kidder. The Paideia Endowment has made a limited number of copies available free of charge at the bookstore for faculty and staff who are not already receiving the book as part of their work with first-year students. If you would like to read Deo's story and join the campus conversation this fall, please feel free to pick up a copy.

LIS executive director search committee

The following individuals have accepted the invitation to serve on the search committee for the position of executive director of LIS: David Ranum, chair; and Diane Gossman, Tim Schweizer, Steve Smith and Rebecca Sullivan. The position will be posted soon and review of applications will begin in July. The start date is negotiable; January 2012 is preferred. Until a new executive director is named, Diane Gossman will serve as interim chair of the LIS Council.

Montoya wins Jenson Medal

William Montoya, a Luther College senior from Ibagué-Tolima, Columbia, was named the recipient of the college’s Jenson Medal at May 22 commencement ceremonies for the Luther Class of 2011.

The Jenson Medal is presented each year to an outstanding senior, selected by the graduating class, who best demonstrates the ideals of the college through service to students and the college community. The Jenson Medal was established through a gift from Luther alumni Elizabeth A. Jenson, Class of 1945, and Paul G. Jenson, Class of 1947, of Vassalboro, Maine.
