Diversity Center seeks friendship families

The Diversity Center is in need of friendship families for our new international students arriving for the 2011-12 academic year. Never hosted an international student? Now is your chance to open your home and offer your family a fun new experience. The friendship families are not asked to house the students, but invite them to their homes for a meal, take them on recreational excursions or attend events in the community with the students. It is not a big obligation and can foster long-term relationships with students from another culture.  Contact Darlene Fossum-Martin, 387-1014.

Sustainability tip

Recycling one aluminum can saves enough energy to keep a 100-watt light bulb burning for almost four hours or to run your television for three hours. Every time you turn on the television, think about how your recycled cans have made that energy use sustainable.

Wellness tip

Best weight loss advice you've never heard:

The third of nine diet tips you may not have heard yet. Borrowed from WebMD.com.

Weight Loss Tip No. 3: Beef up your lunch salad

One of the most common mistakes dieters make is to eat a vegetable salad with little or no dressing for lunch.

A salad is a great choice if you add some protein and a little fat to help keep you feeling full longer.

Top your greens with a 3 oz. piece of chicken breast: about 26 grams of protein but just 140 calories. Add about two tablespoons of light salad dressing, and your salad may be filling enough to get you through the 3 p.m. hunger slump.

And finally…

And I will do everything that I can as long as I am President of the United States to remind the American people that we are one nation under God, and we may call that God different names but we remain one nation.

-President Barack Obama
