Presidential search "Town Meeting"
Bruce Alton, senior consultant with AGB Search, is assisting Luther College in seeking a successor to President Torgerson. Alton will be on campus April 17-18 to gather feedback from the community on Luther's future needs and the qualities we see as most important in our next president. All are invited to attend a "town meeting" with Alton on Tuesday, April 17, 4-5 p.m. in the CRH. Human Resources director search update
The search committee for the position of director of Human Resources has narrowed the pool and three finalists have been invited to interview in early May. As part of the campus interview, open forums will be held at 11 a.m. in the CFL Recital Hall on Wednesday, May 2, Thursday, May 3 and Monday, May 7. Please hold these times on your calendars. Reimbursement for joining CSA
Eager to eat fresh, local summer produce? If so, consider purchasing a CSA. CSA or Community Supported Agriculture is a great way for consumers to purchase local, seasonal food right from the farmer. Consumers pay an up-front cost, and in exchange receive weekly or biweekly boxes of produce for the entire summer. Wellness and Sustainability are collaborating to offer Luther faculty and staff a 50 percent reimbursement on their CSA share. To receive the reimbursement you will simply need to attend two summer book discussions and two local foods cooking classes. New Mail Center hours
The Mail Center window will be open until 6 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays on a trial basis for the rest of the semester. The center will hand out packages for students. No cash sales. (Just like Saturday mornings.)
If you have a pre-paid package, or have a department account number to use, you may drop off outgoing mail. Have departmental account numbers clearly labeled on the packages.

Mail Center/Document Center name change
The Mail Center and the Document Center are both run by IKON Office Solutions. Three years ago IKON was purchased by Ricoh Corporation. Starting April 1 the IKON name will be changing to Ricoh.There will be no changes in our service levels, only the name change. You may have noticed that our service department starting using the name more than a year ago.
Document Center
The Document Center is pleased to announce a discount for large run jobs. Any on campus work done at the Document Center that has 1,000 copies or more will no longer have extra charges for collating, stapling or folding. The jobs need to be set up for the copy machines to do these functions automatically. Contact the Document Center on how to set your jobs up this way and get this additional discount. LIS Demonstration: Google+
Curious about Google Plus, but want to know more before you dive in? Come to a demonstration Tuesday, April 10, 3-4 p.m., Hovde Lounge, by LIS social media team members Jennifer Rian and Sasha Griffin. Google Plus (G+) is a social network that was opened to all Norse Key accounts in February. We will demonstrate key features of G+, such as managing your contacts within Circles and video conferencing with multiple users in Hangouts. LIS 'Teaching and Technology': Social Pedagogies and Technology
LIS will hold a "Teaching and Technology" session Thursday, April 12, 3-4 p.m., Borlaug, Dahl Centennial Union, on Social Pedagogies and Technology facilitated by Andy Hageman and Brooke Joyce. This session will introduce case studies of how social media tools have been used in the classroom. The use of blogs and other social media tools will be discussed in the context of how these online collaborative tools can coexist with and extend instructional strategies. LIS will hold a "Teaching and Technology" session Wednesday, April 18, 12:15-1:15 p.m., Mott, Dahl Centennial Union, on the summer 2012 faculty computer roll-out facilitated by Larry Sikkink. Application process change for J-term off-campus study
Change in application process for J-term off-campus study courses: Beginning this April, students applying to participate in J-term 2013 off-campus study courses will complete the application online and request recommendations online. We've streamlined the process and hope that you will find it easy to use. TIAA-CREF will be on campus for personal financial consultations in a confidential setting. Summer 2012 faculty workshop
LIS and the Dean's Office are partnering to offer "Enhancing Student Learning Through Information Literacy and Technology" for faculty July 9-13. Participants will consider course-specific information literacy principles in the context of departmental/program goals and teaching goals in relation to use of technology (multimedia, social media, new media literacies, hardware, software, etc.). Business card deadline April 18
The publications office is accepting orders for business cards online at www2.luther.edu/printwork. Please order in quantity increments of 250. Send a sample of an old card via campus mail to AJ Perling. Submit orders prior to Wednesday, April 18. This order will be back just before graduation, to accommodate summer travelers.
The publications office gathers business card orders at the start of each semester; note that orders printed individually at other times cost considerably more.
Call for proposals
Using the title "CAN WE TALK?," the 2012-13 Texts and Issues lecture series will consider what makes civil communication possible, desirable, difficult. Proposals for lectures, debates, artistic performances, panel discussions and other presentation formats are welcome. Those interested in participating in the lecture series should submit a tentative title and a brief (250-500 word) proposal by Monday, April 16. Climate Justice Campaign
Students will host a series of Climate Justice Campaign events on campus April 1-22 in conjunction with the international observance of Earth Day. The goal of the campaign is to raise awareness about climate change as a social justice issue and advocate for a sustainable and just future. Students will collect climate justice pledges, circulate petitions for specific climate actions, register voters for the 2012 elections, and collaborate with global concerns groups on the annual Peace Week.

National Library Week book sale
Preus Library's annual National Library Week book sale will be held Tuesday-Friday, April 10-13. Hundreds of hardcover and paperback books will be available. Prices will decline daily.
TEDMED 2012 live at Luther

Brass Ensembles concert April 11
Luther College Brass Ensembles will perform in concert Wednesday, April 11 at 7 p.m. in the Center for Faith and Life Main Hall. The concert is open to the public with no charge for admission. Brass Ensembles include the Brass Choir, Horn Choir, Trumpet Ensemble, Trombone Choir, Trombone Ensemble, and Tuba/Euphonium Ensemble. Repertoire is selected from six centuries of musical resources including transcriptions and original compositions.
Biology colloquium April 12
David Coyle, Ph.D. '97 biology grad, currently a postdoctoral research associate at the Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources, University of Georgia, Athens, will speak in s biology colloquium Thursday, April 12 at 9:40 a.m. in Valders 206. The title of his talk is "Interactions between below- and above-ground processes in forest ecosystems: implications to forest health and human values." All members of the Luther community are encouraged to attend.
Faculty Artist Series: Eric Ashcraft
Eric Ashcraft will perform a faculty voice recital Thursday, April 12 at 7 p.m. in the Noble Recital Hall.
The evening performance will feature pieces from various operas, including "Manon" by Jules Massenet, "Madama Butterfly" by Puccini and "Rigoletto" by Giuseppe Verdi.
Jessica Paul will accompany Ashcraft on piano. Also assisting on the recital are Kristin Hightower, Jonathan Struve, Andrew Wannigman, and Rachael Ware.
Women, Faith and Finance April 13
Area women of all ages will have an opportunity to learn more about financial management, retirement and estate planning, and charitable giving at the eighth annual Women, Faith and Finance seminar on Friday, April 13.
Hosted by Luther, the one-day educational seminar will be presented 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Hotel Winneshiek in Decorah.
CSS: Regina Carter
Jazz violinist Regina Carter will perform Friday, April 13 at 7:30 p.m. in the CFL Main Hall. Tickets are on sale at the Luther Box Office. Tickets are $23, $21 for seniors age 65 and over and $15 for youth ages 4-18. The performance features pieces from Carter's latest album "Reverse Thread." The album is a blend of traditional African folk melodies infused with contemporary elements of American jazz.
Philharmonia concert April 14
The Luther Philharmonia will perform a spring concert on Saturday, April 14, at 7:30 p.m. in the CFL Main Hall.
In celebration of the 10th anniversary of Philharmonia, the ensemble will perform the "New World Symphony" by Antonin Dvorak, "Egmont Overture" by Beethoven, and "Ah, Perfido!, Op. 65" by Beethoven.
Karen Kanakis will join the ensemble for "Ah, Perfido! Op. 65."
Spring Fling April 14
Luther Student Congregation will hold their Spring Fling community service day Saturday, April 14. There is no charge, but donations will be accepted. All donations will be split between the ELCA Malaria Campaign and the Northeast Iowa Peace and Justice Center. Decorah residents may sign up by contacting Luther College Ministries, 387-1271, or <ministry> before April 10. Provide an explanation of the tasks to be completed in a 1.5-hour time frame.
Sihler workshop April 15
Luther alumna Amalia Vagts and musician Namoli Brennet will present the 2012 Luther Sihler workshop Sunday, April 15, 3 p.m. in Studio II in the CFA. Vagts and Brennet will lead an interactive afternoon performance exploring finding and using your voice in faith and activism. Attendees are invited to bring a musical instrument or other prop and prepare one selection of music, writing, movement or other original, personal reflection connected to faith, gender and activism.

Surviving traumatic brain injury
The Department of Nursing is sponsoring two presentations May 1 at 8 a.m. in Olin 102 and 6 p.m. in Valders 206, by Bridgid Ruden. Ruden was a nurse for 25 years. In 2008, she experienced traumatic brain injury due to a bicycle accident. She has had to relearn basic life skills and give up her career. She shares her story of success and challenges through recovery. Both lectures are free of charge and open to the public.
Student recital
Matt Lind '13, will perform a violin recital Saturday, April 21 at 7 p.m. in the Noble Recital Hall. A reception will follow the performance. Both the recital and reception are open to the public with no charge for admission.
ARTICLES, CREATIONS, HONORS, ETC.
Jonathon Struve, instructor in voice, presented a paper titled "Friedrich Hollaender's Spuk in der Villa Stern: Between Entertainment and Politcal Activism" at the 31st annual Great Plains Regional Conference of the College Music Society on March 18. The research focused on Hollaender's 1931 cabaret revue and its engagement with cultural and political developments in contemporary German society.
Ginger Meyette presented at a Board Sponsored Session at the Baccalaureate Program Directors meeting on March 17, in Portland, Ore. The Symposium was titled "Learning From Each Other: An Intergenerational Conversation Among Social Work Faculty." Ginger presented as a panel member from the perspective of an older person who is junior faculty.
Kim Powell and Ashley Matthys '12 presented "Effects of Suicide on Siblings: Uncertainty and the Grief Process" at the Central States Communication Association Convention, Cleveland, Ohio in April. Powell also received a service award from the organization for her work editing the Communication Studies journal.
During April, Jim Eckblad is teaching a Wednesday course "Mississippi River: Past, Present, Future" in Rochester for the Community College LIFE (Learning is ForEver) program.
Richard Cole and Marvin Slind participated in a day long Fulbright Cultural Event in Western Wisconsin.

Bra drive April 10-14
I-ImpactNow is holding a bra drive to support women in Mozambique, Africa who are exiting the sex-trafficking industry. The bras will be collected, sent to Mozambique, and women will be given an inventory of bras which they are then able to sell in order to make a profit. This model provides the women with great income, a safe working environment, a flexible schedule, and a sustainable way of life. This idea was created by an organization called "Free the Girls" (http://freethegirls.com/).
Please donate gently used (or new) bras by bringing them to the Mail Center in a plastic bag labeled "BRAught Back to Life." Collecting bras April 10-14.
Financial donations will be applied to shipping costs. Send financial donations to SPO 270 in an envelope labeled "BRAught Back to Life." We will be collecting money until April 14.

Discovery Camp registration open until April 20
Discovery Camp early bird registration is open until April 20, offering discounted rates to enroll children in the popular week-long environmental programs for students entering grades 1-9.
Camps take place on the Luther campus and surrounding natural areas of Decorah. Enrollment is limited, so early registration is recommended.

Luther seeks producers and consumers to complete survey
Luther, in collaboration with the Northeast Iowa Food and Farm Coalition, Resource Conservation and Development, and Iowa State University Extension and Outreach, is administering a survey throughout the area that will bridge the consumer-producer gap in the local food system and provide an orientation for future growing opportunities.

Empowering Learners fundraiser April 18
Empowering Learners is hosting a fundraiser at T-Bocks Sports Bar and Grill in downtown Decorah Wednesday, April 18, 5-9 p.m. Join Ethan Schultz '12 and Ann Sponberg Peterson as they work to support the learners, teachers and schools of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Namibia. A portion of the proceeds from the evening's restaurant and bar revenue will be donated by T-Bocks to the cause.
