Vehicle registration information
It is time for Luther faculty and staff to renew their vehicle registration for on campus parking. Registration forms have been sent out to campus office locations. Please complete the form and return it to the Welcome Center in the Union. For faster, greener service feel free to bring the form to the Welcome Center in person. Starting this year the stickers will no longer need to be renewed every three years. To allow for a longer lasting display the new stickers now adhere to the inside of the vehicle window. If you have not received a renewal notice you may obtain one by contacting the Welcome Center or stopping at the desk in the Union. The updated sticker should be displayed on the vehicle by the end of August.
Name tag requests
The Publications office is now the contact point for ordering name tags. We will make group orders about three times a year with a notice posted in the Tuesday each time. Please make requests using the PrintWork: PrintWork — Publications Print Job Submission Form link. Those who would like a name tag before classes start must order by Aug. 3. Iowa Private College Week, Aug. 6-10
Luther College will again participate in Iowa’s annual Private College Week Monday-Friday, Aug. 6-10. Morning and afternoon sessions take place at 11 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.
These sessions offer a break during which time students and parents have the opportunity to meet with faculty and staff about Luther's academic and co-curricular programs.
If you are able to spare a half hour for one or more of the sessions, contact Amy Noel, 387-1429 or <noelamy>. Amy Noel and Kevin Kraus will coordinate coverage so that we have representation from as many departments as possible at each break.

'Cultivating Hope' July 24
Luther College Greening Churches project, will host a gathering Tuesday, July 24, 7-8 p.m., at Shirley Baker Commons. Led by Callie Mabry and Kristi Holmberg, interns with the Green Churches project, the gathering is open to all interested members of area church congregations. Refreshments will be served.
The gathering is part of the free, volunteer Greening churches Project that provides information and resources to equip members of local congregations with tools to "green the church" and foster community-wide networking and discussion on sustainability issues.
Movement Fundamentals Coalescence 'informance' July 26
The Movement Fundamentals Coalescence will culminate with an "informance" on Thursday, July 26, 7:30 p.m. Jewel Theatre, Center for the Arts featuring seven Luther College Movement Fundamentals alumni. The informance is free and open to the public. MFC uses the word informance, rather than performance, to encourage the view that performance is a living art, sharing visual dialogue about ideas. MFC participants collaborate in the research, creation and production of an informance, which is the product of the information being shared with the audience. Book signing and performance July 28
Luther Book Shop will host a performance and signing session of the book "Askelad and the Seven Silver Ducks" with narrators/performers Carrie Vecchione and Rolf Erdahl Saturday, July 28 from 1-2 p.m. in the Book Shop. "Askelad and the Seven Silver Ducks" is a traditional Norwegian folk tale set to music and illustrated by Margi Griebling-Haigh. It includes a book and a CD, which was recorded by Vecchione, oboe and English horn, and Erdahl, double bass.

CAE administrative assistant: The CAE office seeks a part-time, 20 hours per week for 9.5 months, administrative assistant to work noon-4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Duties include: serving as receptionist for the office, maintain the office database system and early warning system, create and maintain web page and other publications. Must possess exceptional interpersonal, organizational and communication skills along with a strong working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel. Must be comfortable learning and performing many functions through the integrated campus software system and other electronic media. Degree from a two-year college or technical school required, 1-2 years experience in an administrative assistant position is preferred. ARTICLES, CREATIONS, HONORS, ETC.
Jane Hawley and Sophie Rog are co-hosting the second annual Movement Fundamentals Coalescence on campus in the Center for the Arts, July 19-26. "Movement Fundamentals: Liberating Practices for the Dance Artist" is a dance training and performing curriculum Hawley has been experimenting with since 1996. In 2001, the Luther theatre/dance department implemented the curriculum into the dance program. During the week, 20 dance artists and two musicians from across the US and Germany gather to share ideas on dance training and performing.
Nancy Gates Madsen organized and chaired the workshop "The Political and Moral Economy of Memory" at the Latin American Studies Association Congress in San Francisco, May 23-26.

Benefit for Jordan Bloomstrand
The community is invited to "Jordan's Journey—A Song of Hope," a benefit for first-year student, Jordan Bloomstrand, Saturday, July 28, 3 p.m.-midnight at the The Ridgetop, 10 miles west of Ellsworth, Wis. on Hwy 10. Jordan withdrew from classes in the spring semester for surgery to treat a brain tumor. Jordan is continuing therapy and recovery from surgery at Sister Kenny Institute, at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis. Cards can be sent to:

EDITORIAL COMMENT
Sustainability tip
What many people don't realize is that their TV, computer and coffee maker are sucking up energy for the entirety of the time they are plugged in. The scariest part about these energy suckers – they are everywhere. Everything from your radio to your toaster to your garage door opener is using energy constantly if it is attached to a power supply – i.e. plugged into your wall. These energy sucking electronic gadgets are known in the sustainability world as "vampire appliances."
So what is a green crusader to do in the battle against energy vampires? The solution is actually pretty simple. The first step is to unplug infrequently used appliances between uses, and unplug everything when you leave for vacation. For more frequently used appliances, invest in a power strip with an "on/off" switch, which can be found at almost any electronics or hardware store. Then, when you turn off these appliances, turn off the power strip as well. This cuts off the energy current at the source, so the vampires get nothing when the strip is turned off.
And finally…
Ain't nothing a little Nordic Fest can't fix.
