Parking restrictions Oct. 12-16
Due to the large number of guests expected to join us for festivities Oct. 13-16 for the Royal Visit and Homecoming week, we will implement a number of parking restrictions to help accommodate our visitors.
We recognize that the change will create some inconvenience but it is necessary for safety and security reasons, and to make our guests feel welcome. The restrictions are listed below; we appreciate your cooperation in extending this Luther welcome.
Thursday, Oct. 13 – Royal visit
The Municipal Swimming Pool parking lot and the parking lot behind Preus Library lot will be reserved for visitors attending the Royal Convocation. In addition, the lots north of Valders and south of Ylvisaker will be reserved for Disability Parking.
Parking on the east and west side of the CFL will be closed due to Secret Service regulations.
We ask that all students, faculty and staff remove their vehicles from these parking areas by 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 12. The best alternative parking is the Regents Center lot, but vehicles parked at that location must be moved by 10 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 13.
The Library and Valders lots will re-open for parking as usual after 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 13.
Friday, Oct. 14 – Founders Day Festival Dinner The west side of the Regents Center parking lot will be reserved for those attending the Founders Day Festival Dinner that evening. We ask all vehicles be out of the area by 10 p.m. Thursday,
Oct. 13.
The reserved area of the RC lot will be marked with barricades and yellow tape. It will extend from the west edge to the near center of the lot.
After midnight Friday special parking restrictions will be lifted and revert back to the standard regulations.
Saturday, Oct. 15 – Parade Route
As the Homecoming parade comes through campus traffic will be directed away from the parade route. The parade is scheduled to start from downtown Decorah at 10 a.m. and should arrive on campus around 10:30 a.m.
The parade will enter campus Loop Drive by way of Leif Erickson Drive, pass the front of Larsen and Loyalty Halls, wrap around behind Main, pass in front of the Union and continue down the hill toward the main
entrance on College Drive.
Motor vehicles should not enter this area while the parade is on Luther property.

Sustainability tip
More and more hotels are becoming green by reducing the amount of waste they create and by implementing recycling programs to divert unavoidable waste. Hotels like these recognize that practicing the three Rs makes sense for the environment and for business. Before making a reservation for your next vacation or business trip, ask the hotel about its green practices. Borrowed from http://www.epa.gov.
Wellness tip
Breathe Deeply: The cells of the human body need oxygen to replenish and renew. Shallow breathing doesn’t do the trick. Deep, relaxed breathing that originates from the belly does. Normal cells weaken, die or mutate into unhealthy cells if they are not properly oxygenated. Cellular oxygen starvation can contribute to immune deficiency, intestinal problems, cardiac conditions, anxiety, depression, cancer and fatigue. And finally…
Oct. 16 is National Boss's Day. The origin of Bosses Day dates back to 1958. Patricia Bays Haroski, an employee at State Farm Insurance Company in Illinois, registered it with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.
Haroski chose the date because it was her boss's birthday. Who was her boss? Her father.
Take some time this week to let your boss know how much you appreciate them.
No man goes before his time, unless the boss leaves early.
