Pet sitter wanted: Luther faculty member will be traveling outside of the US over winter, and is seeking care for two easygoing, sociable cats. Looking into various options to arrange for their care starting from mid-December until the end of January. My preference would be to arrange to have my two cats stay with a caretaker temporarily-for a fee, of course. I am also open to other ideas: if someone needs a place to stay over the break, they could do so in exchange for pet care-I live very close to campus; also coming to check in on them regularly could be an option, though not a preference. If interested, email <bazyma01> or call (812) 272-8164.

For sale: Lasko space heater-large room capability, ceramic heater with digital, adjustable thermometer and timer. In perfect condition, only used a few times. Box and instructions included. $50. Call Lauren, 387-1413, if interested, feel free to leave message.

Tree removal: Willing to cut up and remove down or dead hardwood trees in exchange for the wood.  If interested contact [email protected] or 380-4185.

Wanted:  Housesitter/petsitter for February and part of March at house located close to campus. Contact [email protected] or 387-6198.

Pets available: Want to adopt an animal from the Humane Society? The Humane Society of Northeast Iowa is having an adoption day at Critters and Such Pet Care on Hwy 9 in Decorah on Saturday, Dec. 10, 1-3 p.m. Many dogs and cats in need of homes will be at the event, along with information about pet adoption and foster care. The animals available for adoption can be found at petfinder.com. Contact Kim Powell, <kimpowell>.

Wanted: year-round housing for one in the Decorah area. Information and leads appreciated. Contact Paul Ludwig at <ludwpa01> or (608) 797-9881.

For sale: 1996 Toyota Camry, white with sunroof, in good condition. Asking $2,000, which is less than blue book pricing. Call 419-0379 or [email protected].

Sustainability tip

The first four of AASHE's 13 tips for a sustainable holiday: http://www.aashe.org/blog/13-tips-sustainable-holiday-season.

1) Give a gift that will help a child be curious about the natural world, such as a zoo membership, an ant/butterfly farm, science kits, a kite, a tree you plant together, live animal kits, or the garden game.

2) Skip material gifts all together!
**Give an experience:performance/event tickets, a camping trip, cooking classes, a hot air balloon ride
**Give a service
provided by you or a local business: a baby-sitting gift certificate, a massage, a dinner out, hire a chef in, dance lessons

3) For adults, gifts you make yourself often have more meaning (and a smaller environmental impact than mass-marketed products):

4) Give socially conscious gifts. Shop fair trade:

Wellness tip

Giving may help you live longer

“Being involved in [giving] activities seems to give people a longer life,” says Stephen Post, a professor of preventive medicine at Stony Brook University in New York. According to a review of research done by the Corporation for National and Community Service in the U.S., people who give their time by volunteering have lower mortality rates than those who do not. “We now have [indisputable] evidence that there is a causal relationship between participating in one’s community and [good] health,” says Linda Graff, a volunteerism consultant based in Dundas, Ont. From: http://www.besthealthmag.ca/embrace-life/wellness/5-ways-giving-is-good-for-your-health?slide=2.

And finally…

Sometimes you can't see yourself clearly until you see yourself through the eyes of others.
