Honoring the Torgersons
Mark your calendars for two dates in May when the campus will pay tribute to President Rick and Mrs. Judy Torgerson. The Torgersons will be honored Friday, May 3, as part of the annual Student Research Symposium. All are invited to "A Torgerson Tribute: 14 Years of Mojo from the Get-go!" at 8 p.m. Thursday, May 16.
March and April staff meeting notice
For the March staff meeting, Diane Tacke will provide tips and options for retirement planning and Greg Lonning will talk about creating a culture of health in the workplace. The meeting will be offered twice in Peace Dining Room: 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 20, and 9 a.m. Thursday, March 21.
Please note that the dates of the April staff meeting have changed. Meetings will be held twice at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 17, and 9 a.m. Thursday, April 18.

Pool construction update
On Monday, March 18 the old pool was drained and work started on transforming that space into a new multi-use room. As work continues on the new aquatic center, a corridor will be constructed in the existing pool space to allow access to the men and women’s locker rooms. There will be limited access to the second floor of the Regents Center while the seating space from the old pool is removed.
Academic buildings spring break hours
Academic buildings will be closed Saturday-Sunday, March 23-24 and Friday-Sunday, March 29-31. The buildings will open as usual during the week but will close beginning at 5:30 p.m. unless there are scheduled events.
Spring break housing
The residence halls will close for spring break at 7 p.m. Friday, March 22, and reopen at 10 a.m. Sunday, March 31. ID cards will be deactivated for Farwell, Larsen, Olson, Brandt and Ylvisaker. Students in those halls who will be on campus during break must find their own housing in other residence buildings. Students must register in the Residence Life office by March 18 in order to stay in Dieseth, Miller, Baker Village, College Apartments, Sustainability House, Prairie Houses or Norby. All other buildings will be locked.
Farwell locked for Spring Break
Faculty and staff that use the Farwell parking lot and elevator should plan ahead as spring break approaches. Farwell Hall will be locked and not available for use by faculty and staff, even for those that have activated cards. Spring break hours will start at 7 p.m. Friday, March 22. The building will reopen at 10 a.m. Sunday, March 31.
Parking available in Larson lot during spring break for faculty and staff
Faculty and Staff may utilize the student spaces near Larson for parking Monday-Friday, March 25-29. Norby House is open for students over break so the spaces designated for that hall are still reserved for Norby residents.
Seeking Staff Excellence Award nominees
Staff and faculty are invited to nominate an administrative or support staff person for the Staff Excellence Awards. Nominations are due April 12 in the Human Resources office. Winners will be announced at Luther College Staff Day in May. More information about the award and the nomination process can be found at https://www2.luther.edu/hr/
Book Shop spring sale
Spring sale going on in the Book Shop March 18-28. Luther 16oz. tumblers in assorted colors with straws, were $12.99 are now on sale for $8. Luther picnic blankets were $29.99, now on sale for $16. 2-in-1 tumblers for hot and cold beverages with straws, were $17.99 now on sale for $11.

Ice cream cakes available at C-Store
The C-Store has ice cream cakes available for your special celebration. Complement dessert with local K'uun Coffee that is also available from the C-Store. Dining dollars, staff charge, debit and credit cards are all accepted. During spring break, coffee orders can be made through Dining Services.

President Torgerson's 'Senior Chapel'
President Torgerson has shown tremendous leadership and commitment to faith and learning conversations in the community during his time at Luther. Join us for chapel at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 20, in the Main Hall as he offers his reflections as part of our Lenten series, "Leading from Within." This short, twenty minute chapel offers breathing space in the day with opportunity for singing, reflection and prayer. Wednesday’s chapel will include an anthem from Norsemen.
Sports results
Men's tennis won, 7-2, and women's tennis lost, 4-5, to St. Olaf College March 15 in Rochester, Minn.
Luther wrestling placed 16 out of 52 teams at the NCAA III National Championships, March 15-16 in Cedar Rapids. Three Luther wrestlers earned All-American honors. Evan Obert '15, finished eighth at his first national tournament appearance. Kyle Windquist '13, completed his Luther career with an eighth place finish. This was the second time Windquist had qualified for the national finale, but the first time he had earned All-America honors. Trent Flegel '13, ended his career as a two-time All-American. Flegel became the first Luther wrestler since Jason Pyle '10, to earn back-to-back All-America honors.
Faculty Artist Series: Karen Kanakis March 19
Karen Kanakis will perform a voice recital 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 19, in the NRH. The program will feature the works of Gluck, Cesti, Respighi, Strauss, Obradors, and a composition by Brooke Joyce. Other artists collaborating on the program include Luther faculty Michael Chesher, Carol Hester, Eric Kutz and Jessica Paul.
'Renewables in Your Home' information session March 19
A presentation and discussion will take place from noon-1 p.m. Tuesday, March 19, in the Borlaug room. The presentation will include certified RESNET rater and BPI envelope specialist Joel Zook of the Winneshiek Energy District and certified local solar installer Dennis Pottratz of Go Solar! Discussion will focus on local services available to help homes achieve net zero emissions, assistance in deciding if a home is a good candidate for incorporating renewables and a briefing on available economic incentives. Luther College Woman's Club March 19
Julie Fischer, Coordinator of NE Iowa Peace and Justice Center, presents the Luther College Woman's Club program "Practicing Peace, Pursuing Justice" at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 19, in Peace Dining Room, Dahl Centennial Union. Wolfgang David and David Gompper to present guest recital at Luther College March 20
Wolfgang David, internationally renowned concert violinist, and David Gompper, pianist and composer, will present a guest recital at 7 p.m., Wednesday, March 20 in the NRH. The performance is open to the public with no charge for admission and features works by Bach, David Gompper, Maurice Ravel and Camille Saint-Saens.
Luther College Chamber Orchestra concert March 21
The Luther College Chamber Orchestra will present an early spring concert at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 21, in the CFL. Chamber Orchestra is conducted by Daniel Baldwin. The program will begin with a performance of the first movement of the Concerto for Horn and String Orchestra by Gordon Jacob and will conclude with a performance of Symphony No. 5 in C minor by Beethoven.
Spring Discovery Club begins April 2
Have your kids enjoy spring with outdoor adventures after-school. Kids in kindergarten through second grade will visit local natural areas to learn about various ecosystems, visit area farms and meet and greet amazing critters. Kids should dress for outdoor adventures and bring a keen sense of discovery. Registration now open. Classes are held 3-5 p.m. on Tuesdays, April 2-May 7. $55. Gabriele Villarini to lecture on Midwest flooding April 4
Gabriele Villarini from the University of Iowa, IIHR-Hydroscience and Engineering Program, will give a lecture titled "Is it Going to Rain Tomorrow? Heavy Rainfall and Flooding over the Central United States," at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 4, in Valders 262. Villarini will discuss his research, focused on flood forecasting for the Midwest given climate and land use change scenarios. All are welcome.
Spring Kindernature begins April 8
Introduce your child to the wonders of the natural world. Kids will venture through the prairie and woods surrounding Luther with hands-on activities that inspire and foster a connection to the earth. Registration now open for kids ages 3-5 years old. Passover celebration April 11
College Ministries and the Diversity Center are hosting a Passover celebration at 5 p.m. Thursday, April 11, in the Peace Dining Room. The evening will feature a Passover seder, a Jewish tradition that celebrates the Passover theme of freedom from slavery and oppression. Space is limited. 'Women, Faith and Finance' seminar April 12
Luther is hosting the ninth annual "Women, Faith, and Finance" seminar at the Hotel Winneshiek Friday, April 12. Women of all ages are invited to come and learn more about financial management, retirement and estate planning, and charitable giving. Cost is $25, bring a friend and you each save $5. Faculty member Kristy Gould, along with students Katy Lindstrom ’13 and Jon Nerdig ’14, presented their research, "Use of human gesture and gaze information in a two-choice hidden food task by Blue Jays," at the International Comparative Cognition Conference in Melbourne Beach, Fla., March 6-9. Other co-authors included Emily Kratovil ’14, Brian Kurtz ‘15 and Marty Mitchell ’13.

Sympathy
To family, friends and colleagues of Colletta Vick, who passed away Thursday, March 14, at the Gundersen Lutheran Hospital in La Crosse. Funeral services took place Monday, March 18, at St. Benedict's Church in Decorah. Vick worked at Luther for 50 years, including many years as an administrative assistant for the Upward Bound program.
