EDITORIAL COMMENT

Sustainability tip

Cut down on gas emissions simply by avoiding buying gas during the heat of the day, since heat increases evaporation. Fueling your vehicle early in the morning or late in the evening when the temperature is cooler helps to decrease unnecessary gas emissions.

Wellness tip

The Winneshiek Energy District's Bike 2 Work Week is May 13-17. The Energy District is encouraging everyone to bike or walk to work during the week. Help alleviate car traffic and carbon emissions. Stop in to local participating businesses to receive freebies and discounts for riding your bike. It's easy! Just show your helmet and enjoy! There will also be group rides during the week and a cool interactive bike display downtown. If just 20 people committed to biking two days out of the week, 198lbs of CO2 would be diminished and we’d put $40 extra in our pockets! (Based on approximate $3.72 per gallon, five miles round trip drive, 20 miles average per gallon.) Go to energydistrict.org or Winneshiek Energy District on Facebook for continued updates.

"Congratulations! Today is your day.
You're off to Great Places! You're off and away!
You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes.
You can steer yourself in any direction you choose. You're on your own.
And you know what you know. You are the guy who'll decide where to go."
