Upcoming bargain barn sale
Another Luther Reuse Sale will be held from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, July 16. The sale will take place in the Ashmore-Jewell barn, next to Baker Village. The sale includes a variety of items no longer needed by the college. View an inventory list starting July 12 at .
Diversity Center commitment to waste reduction
Sustainability would like to recognize the Diversity Center faculty/staff for their commitment to waste reduction. New postal regulations on no.9 envelopes
Offices using no. 9 reply envelopes should check with the Publications Office before using their current supply. Postal regulations have changed, requiring a barcode, or new barcode. Stop in to Publications in Dahl Centennial Union Room 263 or call 387-1353.
Personal Day
A reminder to all staff that the Personal Day issued on Sept. 1, 2012 must be used by Aug. 31, 2013 or it will be forfeited. The Personal Day is available on a yearly basis, to be used at the discretion of the employee and their supervisor. The allotted hours (based on full-time/part-time status) must be used in one single block, and should not be split between more than one day. If there there are any questions, please contact Human Resources, 387-1134 or payroll, 387-1135.
Campus network downtime for Facilities Management building, Ockham House and the Heating Plant
On Friday, July 12, the campus wired and wireless networks will be down in the Facilities Management building, Ockham House, Storre Theatre and the Heating Plant starting at 2 p.m. This downtime will allow LIS to move network equipment in the Facilities Management building to a new wiring closet. It is expected that the work will be completed by early evening. Please refer to the LIS blog http://lis.luther.edu/blog/ for more information, and for updates as they become available.

Instructional Soccer Camp July 22-25
The Luther College Soccer Camp offers Iowa and the Midwest top-quality soccer instruction. The camp enables aspiring players to learn the basic techniques and tactics of the game in an atmosphere of positive encouragement and support, while advanced players receive collegiate/pro-level training. Each camper will receive a camp t-shirt. This camp is open to boys and girls ages 8 to 14.

Mini Soccer Camp July 22-25
The camp offers tremendous instruction from qualified staff for the boys and girls ages 4-7. The purpose of the camp is to introduce mini-campers to soccer by doing it the right way. Fundamental skills associated with the game are taught alongside simple concepts and ideas. Thus, a child’s first steps in the game become a perfect foundation to further development.

Noble alumni choir returns to Decorah
The Weston Noble Alumni Choir will gather in Decorah starting July 21 for its seventh reunion and concert. The choir, representing Luther classes from 1949 to 2001, will meet for four days of intense rehearsals culminating in a concert for the public at the college’s Center for Faith and Life at 8:30 p.m. Thursday, July 25, immediately following opening ceremonies for Nordic Fest.
Musica Dulce to perform July 17
Musica Dulce, a series of performances in area gardens, and will take place at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 17. Come hear Tom Bourcier, Helen Johnson and Gaelstrom in the gardens of Dave and Candace Arp, Jean Carter and the Eastern Star Home. Huber named Iowa Conference Nominee for 2013 NCAA Woman of the Year
Recent Luther College graduate Shari Huber has been selected as the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference's nominee for the 2013 NCAA Woman of the Year Award.
The NCAA Woman of the Year Award honors senior student-athletes who have distinguished themselves throughout their collegiate careers in the areas of academic achievement, athletics excellence, service and leadership.
ARTICLES, CREATIONS, HONORS, etc.
Kim Powell recently featured an essay in the book, "Mothers in Academia," edited by Maria Castañeda and Kristen Isgro. Powell’s essay, "Breaking the Glass Ceiling While Being a Mother: Parenting, Teaching, Research and Administration," is one of many testimonies by women and their experiences as being a mother as well as an undergraduate, graduate student, academic staff member, and or a professor. Ginger Meyette presented on "Grief as a Health and Wellness Issue for LGBT Elders" at the LGBT Health and Wellness Conference at Des Moines University on June 7.
John Strauss presented a paper on June 21 at the Fourth International Ignaz Joseph Pleyel Symposium in Ruppersthal, Austria titled "Music Publishing in Vienna Then and Now: The Publisher's Dilemma in Pleyel's Time And In the Modern Era." A version of his paper will be published in the fall issue of "Germanic Notes and Reviews." J. Strauss also wrote a tribute to his late teacher titled "Remembering Charles Rosen" which appeared in the May/June issue of the London based journal "International Piano."
John and Virginia Strauss, long-time editors of Johann Baptist Vanhal's (1739-1813) chamber music and concertos, are happy to announce two new editions published by Musikverlag Doblinger in their "Diletto Musicale" series: the first volume of the "Sonatas agréables" Op. 43 (DM 1471) and a viola "Divertimento" in D major (DM1389). The year 2013 marks the 200th anniversary of the death of Viennese composer Vanhal.

Donor records coordinator in Development Office: Donor records coordinator in the Development office needed to support fundraising efforts by creating all giving reports and assisting with the maintenance of giving records. Will also provide administrative support to the Director of Special Programs, including word processing, organizing event details, collating packets and preparing correspondence. This position calls for the ability to work extensively with numbers, strong attention to detail and organizational skills. High school diploma and at least one year of post-high school education required. One or more years of data maintenance and reporting experience necessary. Applicants must be proficient in the use of spreadsheets and word processing. Union cashier/ Book Shop staff position: Primary responsibilities include: count and balance previous day’s monetary transactions and resolve discrepancies; prepare daily deposits, and daily, monthly and annual reports relating to monetary transactions. Book shop duties involve assisting with all aspects of the textbook department: ordering, receiving and invoicing. Attention to detail is necessary and some lifting is required. Must have high school diploma along with strong verbal and written communication skills, experience with Microsoft Office software and strong organizational skills.
Administrative assistant in Athletics, Health, Physical Education and Athletic Training: The Athletic and HPEAT departments are currently accepting applications for a 10-month, 40 hour/week, benefit-eligible Administrative Assistant. The individual will assist the Associate Athletic Director with eligibility, compliance and team roster data as well as support coaches in their recruiting efforts. This individual will assist the HPEAT department head with budget management, help develop the academic schedule, answer phones, greet visitors and order materials for the Department. High school diploma or equivalent and knowledge of Microsoft Office is required. Willingness to learn new software programs and operating systems is essential. Previous experience in similar position desired.
