New postal regulations on no.9 envelopes

Offices using no. 9 reply envelopes should check with the Publications Office before using their current supply. Postal regulations have changed, requiring a barcode, or new barcode. Stop in to Publications in Dahl Centennial Union Room 263 or call 387-1353.

Personal Day

A reminder to all staff that the personal day issued on Sept. 1, 2012, must be used by Aug. 31, 2013, or it will be forfeited. The personal day is available on a yearly basis, to be used at the discretion of the employee and supervisor. The allotted hours (based on full-time/part-time status) must be used in one single block, and should not be split between more than one day. Free yoga for faculty and staff

Learn the basics of gentle yoga with Sonja Arneson-Ecklund of Sonja | Wellness & Yoga during this free lunchtime class for staff and faculty. Mondays from 12-12:45 p.m. in Hovde Lounge in the Library. We will release muscle tension and increase strength and flexibility while relaxing and rejuvenating the body and mind. LIS upgrade to Storage Area Network

On Saturday, July 20, LIS will be performing an upgrade to our Storage Area Network. During the upgrade, many services such as KATIE, Reason, Citrix, printing to network printers and access to network files (e.g. admin1/academic) will be unavailable. Internet access, the campus network, Datatel, Norse Apps and the ability to log into workstations will remain operational. More information and updates will be posted to the LIS blog as available.

Renovation Update

Hats off and platefuls of thanks from the Cabinet to the Norse Culinary Team for managing a full complement of summer visitors on top of an extensive renovation of the cafeteria servery and the C-Store/Marty's area. Sodexo is investing $1.5 million in the renovation project, due to be completed in late August.  

Iowa Private College Week, Aug. 5-9

Luther College will again participate in Iowa’s annual Private College Week which is scheduled for Monday-Friday, Aug. 5-9. Morning and afternoon sessions take place each day.

Each morning at 11 and each afternoon at 1:30, we will offer an academic fair during which students and parents will have the opportunity to meet with faculty and staff about Luther’s academic programs. If you are able to spare a half hour for one or more of the sessions, please call Amy Noel at 387-1429 or email her at <noelamy>. Amy and Kevin Kraus will coordinate coverage so that we have representation from as many departments as possible at each of the 10 breaks.

Flexible spending account reimbursement checks

Flexible spending account reimbursement checks will not be processed the week of July 24 due to a system update at Midwest Group Benefits. Normal check processing will resume on Wednesday, July 31.

Instructional Soccer Camp July 22-25

The Luther College Soccer Camp offers Iowa and the Midwest top-quality soccer instruction. The camp enables aspiring players to learn the basic techniques and tactics of the game in an atmosphere of positive encouragement and support, while advanced players receive collegiate/pro-level training. Each camper will receive a camp t-shirt. This camp is open to boys and girls ages 8 to 14.

Mini Soccer Camp July 22-25

The camp offers tremendous instruction from qualified staff for boys and girls ages 4-7. The purpose of the camp is to introduce minicampers to soccer by doing it the right way. Fundamental skills associated with the game are taught alongside simple concepts and ideas. Thus, a child’s first steps in the game become a perfect foundation to further development.

Noble alumni choir returns to Decorah

The Weston Noble Alumni Choir will gather in Decorah starting July 21 for its seventh reunion and concert. The choir, representing Luther classes from 1949 to 2001, will meet for four days of intense rehearsals culminating in a concert for the public at the college’s Center for Faith and Life at 8:30 p.m. Thursday, July 25, immediately following opening ceremonies for Nordic Fest.

Musica Dulce to perform July 17

Musica Dulce, a series of performances in area gardens, and will take place at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 17. Come hear Tom Bourcier, Helen Johnson and Gaelstrom in the gardens of Dave and Candace Arp, Jean Carter and the Eastern Star Home. Position opening

Administrative assistant in Athletics, Health, Physical Education and Athletic Training: The Athletic and HPEAT departments are currently accepting applications for a 10-month, 40 hour/week, benefit-eligible Administrative Assistant. The individual will assist the Associate Athletic Director with eligibility, compliance and team roster data as well as support coaches in their recruiting efforts. This individual will assist the HPEAT department head with budget management, help develop the academic schedule, answer phones, greet visitors and order materials for the department. High school diploma or equivalent and knowledge of Microsoft Office is required. Willingness to learn new software programs and operating systems is essential. Previous experience in similar position desired. Internal candidates should submit a cover letter, a resume, and the names and contact information for three professional references (one must be a previous supervisor) to: Office of Human Resources by July 16.

Administrative assistant in Music: Luther College Music Department is currently accepting applications for a part-time Administrative Assistant. This is a 10 month, 35-hour/week, benefit-eligible position. The individual will receive visitors, answer phones and schedule rehearsals and meetings. Will interact with faculty, students, staff and general public, as well as oversee student worker projects. Qualifications include: High school diploma or equivalent, with courses in business, keyboarding and computers. Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs.
