From President Tiede
As Luther seeks to manage its budget in the face of financial concerns, it has been prudent to have a hiring pause over the past several months. As we come out of that pause, we are managing positions carefully, trying to protect our employees. Toward that end, we are reallocating an administrative assistant position from College Ministries to another area. Specifically, Lori Ostlie will become the new administrative assistant for the departments of religion, classics and modern languages and literature effective Aug. 18.
Responsive design for Luther's website
The Luther College website will be updated with a new mobile-responsive design to enhance the browsing experience for all users, particularly for those on mobile devices. The web team will lock down Reason CMS for changes at 5 p.m. Wednesday, June 25, so please plan ahead. The goal is to go live with the updated design on either June 26 or 27. For more information, contact Tabita Green, <tabita.green> 387-1902.

Weston update
Weston has been discharged from the Aase Haugen care facility and is back home in his condo. His physician has encouraged Weston to use his walker for exercise and he is in great spirits. Weston wrote:
"I celebrated tonight by taking dear friends to dinner at the Hotel Winneshiek. I had always dreaded the thought of going to Aase Haugen, but I instead found a place that is caring and filled with empathy. I'm thankful that my feelings have been changed, and I now know that there is a great need for caring and concern for people who are in a similar situation. What we would deem as normal is magnified over and over by those who need to be remembered. Every person there was known by the staff by their first name. What I am feeling now is ALL GRATITUDE!!! And we all know to WHOM glory is to be given!
Thank you for praying,
Weston"

And finally...
Juneteenth is the oldest known celebration commemorating the ending of slavery in the United States. Dating back to 1865, it was on June 19 that the Union soldiers, led by Major General Gordon Granger, landed at Galveston, Texas, with news that the war had ended and that the enslaved were now free. Note that this was two and a half years after President Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation-which had become official Jan. 1, 1863.
