Administrative assistant for communication studies and visual and performing arts: Ten-month, (.83 FTE) full time administrative assistant for Communication Studies and Visual and Performing Arts. The administrative assistant supports the active programs within the Visual and Performing Arts department, including art, theatre and dance, as well as within the Communication Studies department. Duties include, but are not limited to: managing multiple budget lines, managing student workers, processing accounts payable and obtaining rights/royalties for theatre and dance productions.

Registered Nurse: Nine-month, 40-hour/week, (.75 FTE) benefit-eligible position. Nurses who work in college health must be interested in the total wellness of students. Our nurses promote a positive image of health throughout the campus community and view health promotion as an essential part of their role. Qualified applicants will have graduated from an accredited nursing school and have a current license to practice in Iowa. An associate degree or diploma is acceptable, a bachelor's is preferred. CPR certification is required.

Security officer: Full-time Security Officer to provide for the safety and security of people and property on the Luther campus. A high school diploma or GED is required; some college is preferred. Must have or obtain CPR and AED training. Preferred qualifications include past security, law enforcement and/or customer service experience and training. Prior experience in a college setting or working with college-aged people is desired. Applicants must have a valid driver's license with a good driving record and must pass an extensive background check.

At the beginning of June, Anna Peterson attended a two-week seminar on teaching the history of the Holocaust in the Soviet Union at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington D.C.

Pastor David Vásquez published an article titled "Biblical Fluency: Living under God's Influence" in the June issue of "Currents in Theology and Mission." The volume was dedicated to reflecting upon, learning from, celebrating and furthering the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America's Book of Faith Initiative.

Loren Toussaint was accepted for participation in the Early Career Reviewer program at the Center for Scientific Review, National Institutes of Health. As an Early Career Reviewer, Loren will serve the NIH by participating in peer review, work with accomplished researchers in psychology and medicine to help NIH identify the most promising grant applications, enhance professional networks and develop grant writing and review skills.  

Loren Toussaint and Gabriel Dorn '15, members of the Luther College Laboratory for the Investigation of Mind, Body, and Spirit, along with colleagues Grant Shields from UC-Davis and George Slavich from UCLA, have published "Forgiveness Buffers the Effects of Lifetime Stress Exposure on Health" in the Journal of Health Psychology. It is the first study to demonstrate that people with forgiving personalities are protected from the damaging effects of lifetime stress on mental health. The study utilizes a state-of-the-art stress assessment that indexes stress from childhood through adulthood and covers virtually all domains of life stress.

A proposal to support recycling efforts on the Luther College campus written by Callie Mabry '14 and Bekah Schulz '14 has resulted in the college being awarded a $1,000 grant from Winneshiek County Solid Waste Agency.

Free: There are mixed greens and several herbs available in the Edible Landscapes, like kale, swiss chard, lettuce, basil, dill, and mint. When harvesting kale and swiss chard, pick the outer leaves from the plant since they are still young.
