Staff Excellence Award recipients
Luther College staff members Michael Bartels and Karen Dallenbach have been named the recipients of the Luther Staff Excellence Award for 2014. Bartels and Dallenbach were recognized at the annual Staff Appreciation Day on June 4.
The Staff Excellence Award recognizes exemplary performance by staff members who consistently excel in their positions and demonstrate integrity and a strong commitment to the mission and values of Luther.
COLLEGE OPERATIONS
Copier phone scammers
The Document Center was informed that two different offices recently received a phone call asking about the copier in the office. The caller was requesting the brand and model number of the machines in the office. The majority of copiers/printers on campus are covered under a contract with Ricoh to supply the toner, parts and service for your machines. Please do not give out any information about the machine in your office. Have them call Jeff or Kim in the Document Center at 387-1631 or 387-1013.

walkLUTHER
This initiative encourages Luther staff and faculty to stay active during the workday by taking half an hour walks, three times per week. A 30 minute walk adds about 4,000 steps to a typical day. Every Monday, Wednesday and Thursday meet outside of Main at 9 a.m. and come join in on the fun. The program runs through Aug. 14. There is a drawing to win 20 chamber dollars every week as well as a grand prize.
Luther Health Care Plan
During 2014, the Luther Health Care Plan covers 100 percent of a Walk-In Community Wellness Test at Winneshiek Medical Center and physical exam for employees and their dependents. In addition to the blood screening, employees and spouses must complete the online Health Risk Assessment (https://www2.luther.edu/hr/

We offer an academic fair at 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. each day where students and parents have the opportunity to meet with faculty and staff about Luther's academic programs. Those who are able to spare a half hour for one or more of the sessions, should email <visitevents> with their availability. Participants should indicate all of the sessions they are able to cover and how many they are willing to cover. We coordinate coverage so that we have varied representation at each session.
New windows in Larsen Hall
The windows in Larsen Hall are currently being replaced. The new windows will be much more efficient.
The office supplies reuse closet has moved
The office supplies reuse closet has moved to Valders 364. Pick up used goods between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday-Friday. There are currently tons of three ring binders, manilla folders, paper trays and more available. Have items to donate? Drop them off at the counter in the reuse closet during business hours.

Follow Luther alumnus on the Tour de France
Riding in his first Tour de France, Matthew "Flip" Busche, Luther College class of 2007, is excited for the opportunity and impressed by the start of the 101st "le Tour."
"I'd be lying if I said the reception here in Yorkshire for the 'Grand Depart' wasn't impressive. I've never seen so many people lining the road. The noise has been deafening," Busche wrote on his blog after stage one of the Tour de France.

Luther College Student Activities Council presents Love and Theft, and Gloriana Sept. 27
Love and Theft, and Gloriana will take the stage at Luther College Saturday, Sept. 27 in the Regents Center. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the concert begins at 7. Tickets will go on sale to students Thursday, Sept. 4, and to the public Thursday, Sept. 11. Tickets are $30, and can be purchased at www.tickets.luther.edu, by calling the Ticket Office at 387-1357, or by visiting the Ticket Office.

Earlier this month Nick Gomersall presented a paper, "Undergraduate Macroeconomics as Current Analysis: A Constructivist Experiment," at the 16th Annual Meeting of the Association of Heterodox Economists, held in London. The paper described an alternative teaching method used in Econ 247 last fall.
John Christianson attended a seminar on "Freedom and Migration in a Norwegian-American Context" in Fagernes, Norway, on June 18-21 and presented a paper on "The Invention of American Immigration History."
Dawn Reding, visiting assistant professor of biology, along with colleagues at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Arizona Game and Fish Department, Universidad de Sonora, and the Savannah River Ecology Laboratory, co-authored "Range-wide analysis of genetic structure in a widespread, highly mobile species (Odocoileus hemionus) reveals the importance of historical biogeography." The study, published in the July issue of Molecular Ecology, presents a comprehensive genetic analysis of mule deer populations across North America to identify subspecies and the factors contributing to their divergence.
Empowering Learners, a philanthropic project led by Ann Sponberg Peterson, is pleased to report that two sea containers have arrived in Namibia filled with 23,000 books and 30 desktop computers for the benefit of the Josef Shifeta Primary School in Ongenga, the Nangombe Combined School in Okahao, and the Oniipa Primary School.
