COLLEGE OPERATIONS

Copier phone scam update

The Document Center was informed that several different offices recently received a phone call asking about the copier in the office. The caller was requesting the brand and model number of the machines in the office. The caller will send toner and then charge the office three or four times the regular price. The majority of copiers/printers on campus are covered under a contract with Ricoh to supply the toner, parts and service for your machines. Please do not give out any information about the machine in your office. Have them call Jeff or Kim in the Document Center at 387-1631 or 387-1013.

walkLUTHER

This initiative encourages Luther staff and faculty to stay active during the workday by taking half an hour walks, three times per week. A 30 minute walk adds about 4,000 steps to a typical day. Every Monday, Wednesday and Thursday meet outside of Main at 9 a.m. and come join in on the fun. The program runs through Aug. 14. There is a drawing to win 20 chamber dollars every week as well as a grand prize.

Luther Health Care Plan

During 2014, the Luther Health Care Plan covers 100 percent of a Walk-In Community Wellness Test at Winneshiek Medical Center and physical exam for employees and their dependents. In addition to the blood screening, employees and spouses must complete the online Health Risk Assessment (https://www2.luther.edu/hr/benefits/health-plan/changes/) and have a physical exam. Upon completion, the Wellness Check-Up form ( https://www2.luther.edu/hr/faculty-staff/common-forms/) must be returned to Human Resources before Dec. 31, 2014 to avoid the additional $25 monthly insurance premium in 2015.

Request for support for Iowa Private College Week, Aug. 4-8

Luther will again participate in Iowa's annual Private College Week which is scheduled for  Monday-Friday, Aug. 4-8. Morning and afternoon sessions take place each day.

We offer an academic fair at 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. each day where students and parents have the opportunity to meet with faculty and staff about Luther's academic programs. Those who are able to spare a half hour for one or more of the sessions, should email <visitevents> with their availability. Participants should indicate all of the sessions they are able to cover and how many they are willing to cover. We coordinate coverage so that we have varied representation at each session.

The office supplies reuse closet has moved

The office supplies reuse closet has moved to Valders 364. Pick up used goods between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday-Friday. There are currently tons of three ring binders, manilla folders, paper trays and more available. Have items to donate? Drop them off at the counter in the reuse closet during business hours.

Edible landscapes ready to pick

There are lots of different greens, several herbs and flowers available in the campus edible landscape areas like kale, swiss chard, lettuce, basil, dill and mint. When harvesting kale and swiss chard, pick the outer leaves from the plant since they are still young. For lettuce, cut off what you'd like with scissors, leaving an inch so that the plant will regrow. For the herbs, pick off what you'd like. Contact <yappma01> with any questions.

Unexpected good news

A week ago today we were reeling from the "presumed" diagnosis of lymphoma. Today we have been stunned by good news! Sue and I met my Mayo Hematology Nurse Practitioner today to learn the joyful news that my PET scan came back negative. This means I don't have any aggressive form of lymphoma. There is a possibility I have an indolent or low grade lymphoma. That type of lymphoma grows so slowly it isn't treated, only monitored. I will return to Mayo Clinic in two months to follow up on this. Read more.
