Edible landscapes ready to pick
In the Edible Landscape by Ylvisaker, the kale, Swiss chard and ground cherries are looking especially great. For the kale and Swiss chard, simply pick what you want near the base of the plant. Gather the ground cherries that have fallen, and let sit on a windowsill until they turn a warm goldish color. As always, check back throughout the summer and fall for free, organic produce. Contact <yappma01> with any questions.
Office supplies reuse closet
The office supplies reuse closet, now located in Valders 364, currently has tons of free folders, three-ring binders, organizational containers, and psychology textbooks available! Pick up used goods between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday-Friday at no cost, for your office or home. Have items to donate? Drop them off at the counter in the reuse closet during business hours.
Luther's green roof continues to thrive
After nearly a year of growth, the green roof installed on Luther College's Sampson-Hoffland Laboratories is alive and kicking. Surviving through a harsh, record-breaking winter, the roof has already proved the hardiness of its plants and will continue to show its ecological and social advantages in the years to come. Both Luther students and staff constructed the 1,500-square-foot area capable of sustaining 29 drought-tolerant plant varieties hardy to northeast Iowa.
End of summer dining hours
The Caf will close after breakfast on Aug. 1 and will reopen for dinner on Aug. 15. It will remain open for lunch during Iowa Private College week, Aug. 4-8. Nordic Brew will be closed for the rest of the summer. Oneota will be closed on Aug. 12 for staff training.
Iowa Private College Week
The Luther College Admissions Office is still seeking the help of faculty members during the annual Iowa Private College Week visit events scheduled for Monday-Friday, Aug. 4-8. Morning and afternoon sessions take place each day.
An academic fair is offered at 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. each day, where students and parents have the opportunity to meet with faculty and staff about Luther's academic programs. We would like to have each academic department covered by a faculty member, and we still have a number of holes to fill. Those who are able to spare a half hour for one or more of the sessions should email <visitevents> with their availability. We ask that you indicate all of the sessions you are willing and able to cover.
Roughly 300 prospective students and their parents will visit campus during the week. Students consistently report how valuable face-to-face communication with faculty members can be in their decision process, so any time you can give to this critical week of visits would be greatly appreciated.
